The safety recall for Maruti Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6 have been issued due to a fault in the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). This particular component is used to start the engine and provide initial energy to the engine. It is only equipped in cars with an electric motor.
Maruti is yet to make an official statement about it. Nearly 60,000 cars have been affected. Since all these cars are a new launch, every single unit till now is affected. Dealers have now put the sales of Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6 mild-hybrid on hold till the issue is resolved.

Maruti’s mild-hybrid SHVS technology earlier came on the diesel variants. The 1.5 Litre petrol engine on the Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6 and the 1.2 Litre petrol engine on Baleno get the mild-hybrid tech.
The 1.5 Litre petrol engine produces 104.7 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The same engine will soon come on the Maruti S-Cross and Vitara Brezza, most likely by next month.
Maruti S-Cross and Vitara Brezza are diesel-only cars, running on the 1.3 Litre DDiS unit. The manufacturer has confirmed that post-April 2020, Maruti will only sell petrol cars in India. Now, it has also hinted that the diesel engines for bigger cars is under consideration.
