The Tata Altroz is easily the most handsome looking hatchback we have seen in quite a while now and its design has raised quite a few eyebrows. Its just not on the design front, but the car in whole makes for an excellent value proposition, be in terms of features, performance or price. But does it have enough to take against the first premium hatchback in the country. We are talking about the Honda Jazz. The prices of the Altroz are yet to be announced on January 22, 2020, when the car is officially launched. However, we expect the Altroz to undercut the prices of the Jazz by a significant margin. The Jazz has always been an expensive hatchback, ever since its first generation. The Tata Altroz might just have an edge on this front.

The Altroz uses a 1.2 Litre three-cylinder engine that produces 86 BHP and 113 Nm of torque. The Jazz also gets a 1.2 Litre engine but with four-cylinder engine. It produces slightly more power at 90 BHP but marginally less torque at 110 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard on both, while the Jazz additionally gets a CVT as well. Altroz is also going to get an automatic gearbox soon, likely a 7-speed DCT unit. It however must be mentioned that the Altroz gets a BS-6 engine while the Jazz still gets a BS-4 engine.

The diesel engine of Altroz is BS-6 compliant, whereas the diesel unit of Jazz is also BS-4. The Altroz gets a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder unit, producing 90 BHP. The Jazz also uses a similar engine configuration but produces more power at 100 BHP. Both cars produce the same torque though. While the Altroz gets a 5-speed manual, the Jazz also gets another gear with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The fuel tank capacity of both the hatchbacks is 37 Litres. The estimated claimed mileage of Altroz is around 19 kmpl and 23 kmpl for petrol and diesel respectively. The Jazz on the other hand returns a mileage of around 18 kmpl for both petrol the manual and automatic powertrains. The diesel engine of the Jazz is however quite more efficient with a fuel efficiency of 27.3 kmpl.

In terms of length, the Altroz is longer than the Jazz by some margin but it is still the Jazz that has the longer wheelbase. The ground clearance remains the same at 165mm. Both cars also have relatively the same kerb weight.
