Tata Motors is going to launch the Altroz hatchback on January 22nd, with deliveries scheduled to commence by the mid of February. The premium hatchback goes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and Volkswagen Polo.

Altroz gets the 1.2 Litre three-cylinder petrol engine from Tiago. The engine is tuned to produce 86 BHP and 113 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Most likely, it will also get a DCT gearbox sometime later in 2020.

Elite i20 gets a 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine, capable of producing 83 BHP and 117 Nm of peak torque. The petrol variant is offered with two transmission options – a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox.

Altroz borrows its 1.5 Litre four-cylinder diesel engine from Nexon. The engine produces 90 BHP and 200 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. i20 gets a 1.4 Litre four-cylinder CRDi diesel engine, capable of producing 90 BHP and 224 Nm of peak torque. While most of its rival offer a 5-speed MT with the diesel engine, i20 offers a 6-speed MT.
