Volkswagen T-Cross To Be Launched In India By Q2 2020

Volkswagen India is bringing four new SUVs in India By 2021, and the first one to hit our shores will be the T-Cross mid-size SUV.

Volkswagen India is experiencing a major slowdown in the Indian market. With its diesel engines being discontinued from next year, the manufacturer has much to worry about. Through its new initiative, Volkswagen plans to bring more SUVs in India.

Globally, there are a lot more products of Volkswagen being sold. In India, we just have five of them including Ameo, Polo, Vento, Tiguan and Passat. In Future, Volkswagen plans to become an SUV brand, starting with the T-Cross next year.

While it will roll out the facelifts of its existing models in future, most of the launches from the company will now include SUVs. Volkswagen T-Cross is the smallest SUV from the German and will enter the Indian market with 10-15 Lakhs price range.

Volkswagen thinks that its presence in the sub-compact SUV and mid-size SUV is absent and these two segments are growing tremendously. In recent months, we have seen a lot of launches in this segment, including the ultra-famous Kia Seltos and MG Hector.

The first one upcoming from VW is the sub-compact SUV built on MQB-AO platform. It will be most likely the Volkswagen T-Cross that is set to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. After that, it plans to take on the likes of popular SUVs like Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500.

When the Volkswagen T-Cross enters India, it will take on the likes of Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Globally, the SUV is 4.1m long but in India, we might see it get 100mm longer.

Other sets of SUV that might make it to India include the Volkswagen T-Roc and Touareg. Volkswagen is also working on an all-new SUV that is still under development. This unknown SUV will be built in collaboration with Skoda and both of them will use their own versions for sale.

Volkswagen has confirmed disinterest in the small cars or the B segment sedan type for the time being. If seen, despite being excellent driving enthusiastic cars, the Polo and Vento have not managed to grab a decent share in the Indian market.

Also, from April 2020, Volkswagen will discontinue diesel engines post BS-6 norms. So your beloved TDI engines will no longer be available and now’s the right time if you really like one.
