New 2021 Aston Martin V12 Speedster teased with 690bhp

The Aston Martin V12 Speedster will be a low-production run roofless special inspired by the 1959 Le Mans winning DBR1

Aston Martin has confirmed plans for a new, limited run two-seat speedster, which will be revealed later in 2020 with a production run of just 88 units planned.

Called V12 Speedster, a teaser sketch hints at the shape of the roofless newcomer, which will join the Jaguar Project 7 and the upcoming McLaren Elva to form a trio of roofless, thoroughbred British sports cars from recent times.

Aston is keeping the final design under wraps for now, but says that the shape is inspired by both the 1959 Le Mans winning DBR1 and the CC100 Speedster Concept show in 2013 to celebrate the brand’s centenary.

It’s not clear what chassis will underpin the new car, but Aston has hinted at the use of “advanced materials,” albeit already used elsewhere in the firm’s contemporary sports car range.

Under the bonnet will reside the brand’s latest 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, sending power to the rear axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission. No performance figures have been revealed, but the brand promises around 690bhp and 700Nm torque, turning the wick up by around 60bhp on the 630bhp DB11 AMR, but meaning the new Speedster isn’t quite as powerful as the DBS Superleggera.

Orders are being taken now for the 88 V12 Speedsters, with prices kept firmly under wraps. The first cars will be on roads in the first quarter of 2021.
