The Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace R-Line gets several sporty styling updates over other variants but this could be quite expensive in India as well.

There are some fresh new spy images of the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace that has surfaced on the internet and this time, it was caught testing in its top-spec R-Line variant. The Tiguan AllSpace will replace the standard Tiguan in India. Volkswagen India will showcase the Tiguan AllSpace at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 in February, which will be followed by a market launch soon after.

In terms of the styling, the AllSpace looks pretty much similar to the standard Tiguan. The face gets looks identical with a slatted chrome grille and revised LED headlamps. It is when you view it in profile, that the Allspace’s longer length and the longer rear overhang becomes evident.

This particular test mule was however the sportier looking R-Line variant. The Tiguan AllSpace R-Line variant gets a slightly bigger rear spoiler in a glossy black shade instead of the body-coloured one on the Tiguan and a revised rear bumper with more glossy black treatment and horizontal dual exhaust ports. The front section too gets the aggressive treatment of the R-Line trim with a sportier front bumper and a tweaked grille. The contours are more prominent and appear to sit a bit higher, and the SUV is running on a set of 17-inch Tulsa alloy wheels.

In terms of dimensions, the Tiguan AllSpace measures 4701mm in length, 1839mm in width, 1674mm in height and has a 2787mm long wheelbase. While the length and wheelbase has obviously gone up, the car remains the same in width but its height has also up by 2mm. With the third row of seats in position, the boot space is reduced to 230 liters as opposed to 615 liters in the standard Tiguan. However, fold the seats down and you have a massive 700 liters of boot space.

Inside the cabin, the dashboard layout is exactly similar to the standard Tiguan. However, Volkswagen might offer a different color scheme with the AllSpace. It’s also expected to come with premium features like connected car technology, a bigger infotainment system, and digital dials. Features like the panoramic sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats as well as drive modes could be retained.

The Tiguan AllSpace will be offered with only a BS-6 petrol engine in India. We expect it to be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that develops 190bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The engine will most likely be offered with a 7-speed DSG but while the international spec Tiguan gets all-wheel drive, the India-spec Tiguan will only be front-wheel drive. There won’t be a Tiguan Allspace TDI on offer as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd is planning to discontinue diesel engines in the BS6 era.

It will of course be priced higher than the standard Tiguan at Rs. 28.15 lakhs but then, it will compete with the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Alturas G4.
