BS-6 Mahindra Marazzo to Come With a Shuffled Variant List!

With the BS-6 update, Mahindra will discontinue the current top-spec M8 variant and introduce new variants like M4+ and M6+ for a better value offering.

Mahindra is one of the few mainstream car manufacturers who will be offering diesel engines in their cars even when the BS-6 norms have become effective. In fact, most of Mahindra’s cars are powered by diesel engines. Mahindra is now gearing up to launch the BS6-compliant Marazzo MPV.

Mahindra will Soon Launch the BS-6 Marazzo but with a shuffle to its variant list.
Mahindra will Soon Launch the BS-6 Marazzo but with a shuffle to its variant list.

The BS-6 Mahindra Marazzo will use the same 1.5 liter diesel engine as the BS-4 spec Marazzo. It will however be given several modifications to make it BS-6 compliant. The engine will feature a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system with a rear-mounted urea tank to help reduce NOx emissions. It will also get a DPF (diesel particulate filter).

In terms of power output, the 1.5 liter, four-cyclinder diesel engine is expected to remain identical to the BS-4 spec engine. That mean’s you will get 100bhp in Eco mode and 123bhp in the Power mode. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Earlier, Mahindra had also said that they would be introducing an automatic gearbox with the Marazzo and we expect that to arrive sometime later this year as well.

However, the BS-6 compliance wouldn’t be the only update for the Marazzo. Mahindra will be shuffling the variants of the Marazzo as well. According to sources, the top-spec M8 variant will be given a miss. The BS-6 Mahindra Marazzo range will thus start from the entry-level M2 trim and will also see new variants like M4+ and M6+, the latter being the new top-spec variant. The details on the exact features list on each variant is still unknown but we expect some features from the M8 trim to be carried over to the new top-spec M6+ trim upon launch.

All variants of the BS6-ready Marazzo will be available in both seven- and eight-seater configurations. The Marazzo does not have a direct competitor in Indian market in its specific price bracket, more so after the Renault Lodgy has been discontinued. However, it competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the lower end of the spectrum and the Toyota Innova Crysta in the higher end of the spectrum.

The Marazzo is priced from Rs. 9.99-14.77 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India) and by ditching the top-spec M8 trim, Mahindra is trying to create a smaller price bracket for the Marazzo. The new top-spec M6+ variant is intended to be seen as more value than the M8. This would further help Mahindra generate more sales. The MPV will soon see a price hike too, due to this BS6 upgrade.
