GWM made their India debut with the Haval brand at the 2020 Auto Expo with a strong SUV lineup, out of which the F5 and F7 were the most important ones. Here’s a closer look at them.
Great Wall Motors made their India debut at the 2020 AUto Expo with the Haval SUV brand. GWM showcased 13 cars at the Auto Expo which includes Haval SUVs and Ora EVs, the most prominent ones being the Haval F5 and F7 SUVs. Following the success of MG Motors in India, Chinese carmakers are now taking a growing interest to enter the Indian market. Just like MG Motors, Haval is also trying to build their image in India as an SUV brand and they had quite a few to showcase at the Auto Expo.
The Haval F5 is based on the same platform as the Haval H6 and the WEY VV5 and it is a mid-size SUV that has about the same size as the Hyundai Creta. The Haval F5 is powered with a 1.5 liter turbo-petrol engine that produces 169PS of power and comes mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. It is also pretty well kitted on the inside as it gets voice recognition, lane departure warning (LDW), and blind-spot monitoring system. It is also a pretty handsome SUV with good proportions and a proper SUV stance.
Haval also had the F7 SUV on display. The F7 is essentially a mid-size SUV that measures larger than the Kia Seltos but its smaller than the MG Hector. It sits in between the Hector and Seltos in terms of dimensions. The F7 is powered by two turbocharged petrol engines. There’s a 2.0-litre engine that produces 224PS and 385Nm of torque and then there’s also a 1.5-litre engine which is good for 168PS and 285Nm. The F7 is also a pretty handsome looking SUV. bearing much similarities with F5 but has a coupe-like roofline.

Lastly, Haval has the H9. The H9 is the largest of the lot and it measures 4.8 meters in length. Its a proper body-on-frame SUV that weighs 2.2 tonnes and comes with plenty of hardcore off-road kit. It gets a low-range transfer case, locking rear differential and 206mm of ground clearance. The H9 will also be powered by a 2.0L diesel engine and a 240 hp petrol engine as well. It will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavor in India.

We have a lot of SUVs coming up in the next couple of years and we are excited to see how the Haval brand is received in India. With these products on display at the Auto Expo, GMW was essentially gauging customer interest in their cars and will accordingly decide which products to bring to India.
