The 2020 Auto Expo saw a slew of SUVs but one that really managed to stand out was the 2020 Force Gurkha. Yes, Force Motors have completely refreshed the Gurkha for 2020 and it gets a new chassis and a new body shell with much more emphasis on interior comfort and features. Now it also complies with present crash-test standards as well as the upcoming pedestrian safety norms. The new Force Gurkha will compete with the next-gen Thar which is also due in the coming months.

In terms of styling, the new Gurkha retains its overall upright stance and silhouette but there are a ton of changes to distinguish it from its predecessor. The new Gurkha gets new bumpers at both ends with new headlamps and tail lamps as well. The headlamps even have LED DRLs this time and bonnet mounted turn indicators remind you of the mighty Mercedes G-Class. The SUV also gets a new grille and the black body cladding and bulging wheel arches further enhance its off-road appeal. Completing the look are 16-inch alloy wheels shod with 245/70 tubeless tyres.

It is on the inside where the new Gurkha sees the most important changes. Its a pleasant departure from the utilitarian interiors of the previous Gurkha and while the dashboard is still set quite shallow and upright, it much better equipped this time. It gets a new touchscreen infotainment system flanked by air-con vents o either sides. There are new control surfaces for the air-con system and a new instrument cluster with a MID between the tachometer and the speedometer. Its still quite basic but a huge improvement over its predecessor.

Force wants to broaden the SUVs appeal as a lifestyle SUV and an everyday vehicle in addition to its off-road nature. The new Gurkha also packs in more kit than before with the inclusion of tech such as dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors and power windows. Moving to the seats, the cabin features four forward-facing seats – two individual seats in the second row – with a pair of jump seats in the boot section. The rear glass area has also been revised for a single large unit in place of the split window setup seen on its predecessor.
