All Volvo cars in India are already BS6 complaint but Volvo has announced that they will not hike prices of any model until April 2020. All cars will continue to be sold for BS4 prices.
Volvo Car India has announced that they their entire car lineup in India is already BS6 compliant, much ahead of the April 1 2020 deadline. Volvo’s lineup in India currently consists of the XC40 (petrol only), the XC60 and the XC90 SUVs along with V90 Cross Country estate and the S90 sedan.
What is really interesting is that the Swedish carmaker has announced that there will be no hike in prices of the BS6 models till March 31st. That means you can book a BS6 complaint model of any Volvo now and you will get it for the price of the BS4 models. However, from April 2020, there will be a hike in prices of all the models with deliveries beginning shortly thereafter. Volvo has also revealed that there will be no difference in power output in any of their models after upgrading to meet the stringent emission norms.
Speaking on the occasion, Charles Frump, managing director, Volvo Car India, said, “The transition from BS4 to BS6 has been challenging, especially keeping in mind the industry’s performance in 2019. I am extremely proud of my team and our partners who have been relentless in making sure a smooth shift to BS6, well before the deadline. As a gesture to our customers owning an environment-friendly BS6 Volvo Car this financial year, we do not have any price increase for our BS6 certified cars till March 31, 2020”.

The first Volvo model to be BS6 complaint was the petrol version of the XC40 which was launched late last year for a price of Rs 39.9 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). Similarly, in November 2019, BMW had also announced that their entire petrol range is BS6-compliant and that it has commenced local assembly of its first BS6 diesel models in India – the 5 Series and 6 Series GT.

Earlier, we had also reported that Volvo plans to bring the S60 plug-in hybrid sedan to our market. The current-generation of the S60 has been discontinued in India but if Volvo brings the S60 back to India, it will be powered by a 303 bhp petrol motor with 87 bhp from the electric motor alone. the Volvo S60 plug-in hybrid gets an 11.8kWh battery which gets a range of 57 km s and returns a mileage of 62.4 kmpl. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h can be achieved in flat 4.6 seconds.
