Toyota has put out a teaser of an upcoming compact SUV, ahead of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. There are possibilities of it coming to the Indian market.
Looks like Toyota is now working on a new small crossover SUV, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show. In the global markets, it will be positioned just above the Toyota Raize sub-4-metre SUV. We are expecting it to come to India in a couple of years.
Based on the two teasers of the new Toyota SUV, we can say that it gets bold wheel arches, a flat roofline and an almost flat bonnet. It flaunts a bold SUV stance that is unlike the other Toyota crossover, C-HR.
Toyota is likely to use the TNGA-B platform, which is used for many cars in the global market. Its dimensions are likely to be the same or just a bit bigger than that of Yaris. The sedan is also built on the same platform and is 4.42 metres long.

If it manages to come to India, it will be paired up with the 1.5 Litre petrol engine from Yaris. The four-cylinder motor produces 105 BHP and 142 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a CVT gearbox.
Also, do not miss out on the Hybrid and AWD badges on the boot. The same petrol engine could be paired up with a bigger electric motor. The AWD configuration could be a miss for India so that the prices are kept in check.
Once launched in India, the new Toyota crossover SUV could find competition from Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Volkswagen Taigun and Renault Captur. Given the growing trend of SUVs in India, that too under 20 Lakhs, this SUV might make it to our country.
