Skoda Finally Takes The Wraps Off The Stunning Vision IN Concept

The production-spec Skoda Vision IN will officially see its market launch between April-June 2020 and its the newest entrant in the hotly contested mid-size SUV segment.

After a lot of anticipation and teasers, Skoda Auto India has finally taken the wraps off the Vision IN Concept at its world premiere at an event in Delhi yesterday. The Skoda Vision IN is a rather important car for the Volkswagen group and it will also be the first car to be launched under the Group’s India 2.0 Project. The Vision IN will also be the first car to be built on the company’s brand-new, tailored-for-India, MQB A0 IN platform. It will be Skoda’s take on the mid-size SUV segment (a very hotly contested segment in India right now) to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.

The Vision IN is a handsome looking car and there’s no two ways about it. The design somewhat resembles the Skoda Kamiq that is sold abroad but its bolder, with a more upright nose. The concept car came with rather fancy details like the illuminated Skoda logo and grille. As is the trend, the Vision IN gets split LED headlamps and a rather aggressive looking bumper with large angular air intakes and a three-slot skid plate. Other notable design elements include plastic cladding all around, prominent roof rails and large 19-inch alloy wheels befitting a concept.

At the rear too, there’s a lot of resemblance with the Skoda Kamiq. The concept features funky crystal-like LED tail lights and a light band joining both the units. The rear bumper is also garnished with a three-slot skid plate, just like the front. Size-wise, the Skoda Vision IN SUV concept measures in at 4.26m in length – roughly the same length as the outgoing Hyundai Creta.

On the interiors, the dashboard has a multi-layered layout but still has a clean and minimalistic design. The dashboard will be dominated by a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV will also come with Skoda’s Virtual Cockpit system (digital instrument cluster), a flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel with knurled steering mounted controls, a small gear selector in the central console, and a unique ‘crystalline element’ positioned in the middle of the dashboard.

Another interesting interior design element is a single chrome band that runs along the entire dashboard, joining the two AC vents on either side. There’s also plenty use of orange on the concept car to give it a funky look. Features expected on the production version of the Skoda Vision IN include automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, USB charging ports at the rear, drive modes, ambient lighting and more. We can also tell you that the production-spec Skoda Vision IN SUV will have a 2,651mm-long wheelbase, and plenty of space for rear-seat passengers.

Powering the production-spec Skoda Vision IN will be a 150hp, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. There won’t be any diesel engine option, but a CNG variant could be on the cards. The production-spec Skoda Vision IN will go on sale in India between April-June 2020 and it will arrive much earlier than its VW cousin based on the same platform, the Taigun SUV. With two brand new launches coming up in this segment, it couldn’t have got any hotter.
