The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe was scheduled to launch in India by June this year while the M8 will launch by year end. The former will cost upwards of Rs 85 lakhs while the latter could go up to Rs 2 Crore.
We had already reported to you that BMW will be launching the 8 Series Gran Coupe in India before the second quarter of this year. Now, some fresh spy shots have surfaced on the internet of the 8 Series Gran Coupe and the M8 in India, hinting at their iminent launch. BMW had already listed the 8 Series Gran Coupe on the India website but the M8 definitely comes as a surprise.
The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will be priced upwards of Rs 85 lakhs and the M8 could even cost more than Rs 2 crores. The former was scheduled to launch sometime in May or June 2020 but the ongoing coronavirus scare will surely postpone the arrival of the car now. As for the M8, it will see its launch towards the end of this year.
We had also said BMW will most likely just bring the rear-wheel drive 840i sDrive model to India but seeing the recent spy pics, the all-wheel drive model also seems to be on the cards. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is a handsome looking car. The long bonnet line at the front with the signature kidney grilles and sweptback LED headlamps make for a very imposing face. The coupe-like slopping roofline give the car a stance of a grand tourer and the well sculpted tail with wrap around LED tail lamps complete off the look.
Under the hood, the BMW 840i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that produces 333 bhp and develops a peak torque of 500 Nm. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. On the inside, this Beemer is strictly a four seater as the central tunnel carries through and meets the rear seat to offer a small console for the rear passengers. And its plenty luxurious as you’d expect.

Coming to the M8, it is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that offers 592 bhp and peak torque 750 Nm. In the M8 Competition Coupe, the same engine is tuned to offer 616 bhp with the same 750 Nm. An 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD system are standard. It also has plenty of styling cues to set it apart from its four-door sibling, apart from the obvious lack of two doors. The M8 comes with distinctive M package styling, aggresseive bumpers, larger dual-tone alloy wheels, a sleeker profile and roofline and of course, a scintillating engine sound to go with it all.

In India, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will rival the likes of the Mercedes CLS and the Porsche Panamera. Meanwhile the M8 will rival the Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe while also being much cheaper alternatives to the Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin DB11.
