Hyundai is reportedly working on a Venue based electric vehicle that could come up in the next 2-3 years. It will rival Nexon EV and XUV300 EV.
Hyundai launched India’s first electric SUV, Kona, in 2019. It is priced around Rs 25 Lakhs which makes it a costly choice. Despite its high pricing, Hyundai has managed to get decent number of buyers for its electric SUV over the year.
With the launch of Nexon EV, more buyers are going towards it because it is priced nearly Rs 10 Lakhs cheaper than Kona. So, Hyundai has now started working on Venue EV which will be priced in the same 10-15 Lakhs range. Naturally, a rival for Nexon EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 EV.
Unlike Kona, Hyundai Venue based EV will be a mass-market EV, produced locally in India. This would help them in keeping the prices lower. It will sit on a completely new platform that will also spawn more electric, hybrid and even ICE cars. This platform will be highly flexible for different types of configuration.

Nexon EV gets a 30.2 kWh electric motor with an IP67 rated liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack. The motor produces 129 PS and a peak torque of up to 245 Nm. The Hyundai Venue based EV could get similar battery specifications and not from Kona.
Hyundai Kona goes with a 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that produces 136 PS and 394 Nm of peak torque. The electric motor is capable of offering a driving range of 452 kms in a single charge. For the affordable one, the range could be limited to 300-350 kms.
Also, this product will be launched on a global level with India as its export hub. As of now, the manufacturer is still working and probably, next year, we might be able to see it as a concept version. The launch would definitely not be in the next two years.
