Maruti Alto K10 BS6 Fake Video On Youtube – Is It Phased Out?

There are several videos of youtube suggesting that Maruti Alto K10 BS6 has been launched. The hatch has been permanently discontinued.

Maruti Suzuki has updated most of its lineup with BS6 engines, well ahead of time. The last one to get the updated engine was Vitara Brezza Petrol. Now, Maruti has put out a teaser suggesting that soon, S-Cross will also get a petrol engine.

The only one left out of the BS6 lineup is Maruti Alto K10. Now, if you go on Youtube, there are several videos suggesting that it has been launched and the prices have been revealed. We should clarify that these videos are completely false in nature.

We have confirmed the development with Maruti officials who told Alto K10 has been discontinued and there will be no BS6 update for it anytime. The prices of Alto start off at Rs 3.61 Lakhs going up to Rs 4.40 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

The videos claim that the prices of BS6 Alto are Rs 12,000 higher than the current one. A couple of automotive websites also show the fake pricing. If you come across any article or video saying that the prices start off at Rs 3.72 Lakhs up to Rs 4.51 Lakhs, it is incorrect.

Maruti has discontinued Alto K10 due to its decreasing sales and close pricing to S-Presso. The latter is now an obvious choice because it is better looking, gets more features and most importantly, is a brand new model. Although, the Alto 800 has been updated with a BS6 engine.

Alto K10 and S-Presso share the same 1.0 Litre three-cylinder petrol engine, that produces 68 BHP and 91 Nm of peak torque. Both also get the same transmission options including a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. We are not sure if the engine tuning is different for both.

Alto is anyways nearing its life cycle in India and by 2021, even the Alto 800 will be discontinued. The brand name has been in our country for nearly two decades and has managed to stay in the top 5 selling cars of India all these years.

Now if you want to buy an entry level Maruti hatchback, you have to choose between Alto 800 and S-Presso. The latter has managed to even grab the attention of buyers who were going for the 800cc hatch. S-Presso is amongst the top 10 selling cars of India.
