Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol gets mild-hybrid SHVS technology but only for the automatic variants. That’s why, it is more fuel efficient than manual.
Maruti launched the Vitara Brezza Petrol in February, after showcasing it at the Auto Expo 2020. Maruti has discontinued its diesel engines completely due to BS6 norms and now from an only-diesel SUV, Brezza is an only-petrol SUV.
It gets a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine first made its appearance on the facelifted Ciaz, followed by all the big Maruti models. Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6 and S-Cross use the same engine.
Further, Vitara Brezza comes with a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed torque converter AT options. The latter gets Suzuki’s famous mild-hybrid SHVS system. This technology increases the fuel efficiency by 15-20% and also offers features like auto-start stop.

Usually, AT, CVT and DCT transmissions give lesser mileage than the manual variants. AMT gearboxes are tuned to be more fuel efficient than a manual. In the case of Brezza, its AT variants are more efficient than manual ones. Brezza manual offer 17.5 kmpl whereas the AT variants offer 19 kmpl, both as claimed.
Reports suggest that soon, Maruti will offer the mild-hybrid technology even with the manual variants. This feature will come as standard on all variants. Additionally, the mileage of Brezza Petrol manual will also be higher. We are expecting the claimed figures to be around 21.5 kmpl.
Rest everything will remain unchanged. The Brezza petrol comes with features such as SmartPlay studio touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, rear AC vents, voice assist, projector headlamps and more. The price range of Brezza now starts at Rs Rs 7.34 Lakhs up to Rs 11.40 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

Soon, Maruti will also be launching the S-Cross Petrol. It came with the same 1.3 Litre MJD diesel engine and will be replaced by the yet same 1.5 Litre petrol unit. With that, we are expecting Maruti to jazz up the S-Cross with some minor cosmetic tweaks.
