Nissan is developing a new sub-compact SUV named Magnite. The SUV will be priced very competitive and is scheduled to come out by Diwali.
Nissan and Renault, both are said to be working towards the sub-compact SUV segment. Both are among the last brands to be putting their cars in this segment. The data might say otherwise, but public opinion says that the small SUVs are getting popular by the minute.
Nissan Magnite sub compact SUV will be build on the same platform that goes under Triber. The same platform will also spawn Renault Kiger. While Kiger will be more towards the styling and appearance, Magnite will be more comfortable and practical.
It will get two engine options, making a diesel engine completely out of option. The base and mid-spec trims will get Triber’s 1.0 Litre three-cylinder engine that produces 72 BHP and 96 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come mated to a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.

The second engine in question is a new unit that will go on future Renault and Nissan small cars. Magnite will also get 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit that will pump out nearly 95 BHP. This engine could get a 5-speed MT and a CVT gearbox. Also, it might only come on the top-spec trims.
Other than that, Magnite SUV will get a couple of segment-first features too. It will get a 360-degree camera, connected telematics with big touchscreen infotainment from Kicks and dual-tone paint options. A 360-degree camera is found in cars nearing 15 Lakhs range.
Reports suggest that Nissan Magnite SUV will not be priced as per its direct rivals. Instead, it will undercut the prices by nearly 50%. Most of the compact SUVs are priced towards Rs 12 Lakhs for the top-end variant. As for Magnite, it might just go up to Rs 6 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).

The prices could start around Rs 5 Lakhs which would make it even cheaper than Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo. Even for that instance, it will be priced identically to the Maruti WagonR and Hyundai Santro. So, in this price you go for a small hatch or Nissan has an option of a bigger compact SUV.
