BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR Launched in India – Price and Details!

BMW has launched two brand new motorcycles in India – F 900 R and F 900 XR – with price starting from Rs 9.90 lakh and 10.50 lakh for both motorcycles respectively. The F 900 R is a sports naked while the F 900 XR is a sports tourer.

After a lot of teasers and anticipation, BMW has finally launched the F 900 R and the F 900 XR in India. The BMW F 900 R is a sports naked motorcycle and it is a replacement for the F 800 R internationally. Meanwhile, the F 900 XR is a completely new motorcycles which has been perceived as a sport touring motorcycle. It is essentially a more affordable version of the S 1000 XR. Both these motorcycles are coming to India for the first time and there’s plenty to be excited about. BMW has launched the F 900 R is India in a single standard variant, available at a price of Rs 9.90 lakh. Meanwhile, the BMW F 900 XR is available in two variants – standard and Pro – for a price of Rs 10.50 and 11.50 lakh respectively.

The BMW F 900 R is the second most affordable sports naked motorcycle from BMW in India after the G 310 R. It is a very stylish looking motorcycle with very sharply sculpted body panels. In fact, you could say that it looks like a much bigger sibling of the G 310 R. The design of the F 900 R is actually an evolution of the F 800 R but there has been one major alternation. The fuel tank has been relocated from under the seat for a more conventional layout which allows for a much slimmer tail section.

As for the BMW F 900 XR, this too is a stunningly beautiful machine. Perhaps a little smoother than the F 900 R, the F 900 XR draws a lot of design inspiration from the S 1000 XR. The face of both the motorcycles look quite similar with the twin headlamp unit and high-set windscreen. In terms of equipment, both motorcycles get LED headlamps and turns indicators, dynamic LED tail lamps, a 6.5-inch colour TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable brake and clutch levers and a new Datatool STEALTH S5 which is essentially a geofencing based anti-theft device. There’s a higher-spec SE variant which gets additional features like adaptive cornering headlamps and LED DRLs as well.

But lets address the heart of both these motorcycles now. Both the BMW F 900 XR and F 900 R are powered by a 895cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin that puts out 105PS and 92Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch. The SE variant gets a quickshifter as standard as well. In terms of electronic rider aids, both motorcycles get traction control and two riding modes – Road and Rain. Meanwhile, the SE variant gets an additional Dynamic riding mode.

Both the motorcycles are underpinned by a bridge-type frame. The suspension setup on both the motorcycles are identical with 43mm upside down forks at the front and preload- and rebound-adjustable rear monoshock. The suspension on the F 900 XR however offers more wheel travel. The SE variants additional get an electronically adjustable semi-active rear suspension. Braking duties are handled by 320mm dual discs at the front with radial Brembo callipers and a 265mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Both the motorcycles ride on 17-inch alloy wheels.

Some other technical details worth mentioning would be that the F 900 R weighs 211kg, has a seat height of 815mm and has a fuel tank of 13-liters. Meanwhile, the F 900 XR weighs 219kg, has a seat height of 825mm and has a larger fuel tank of 15.5 liters. In India, the BMW F 900 R competes with the likes of the KTM Duke 790, the Ducati Monster 821, Triumph Street Triple RS and the Kawasaki Z900. The BMW F 900 XR however does not have a direct competitor in our market but you could compare it with a Ducati Multistrada 950 or the Kawasaki Ninja 1000.
