Hyundai i20 has received a 3-star safety rating in the global NCAP crash tests. The current model in India has received the safety rating and not the previous one. Here’s a recent accident of Hyundai i20 that also suggests its decent build quality. Right now, it is the fourth safest hatchback that you can buy in India.
You can see here that the Hyundai i20 is standing behind a big truck at a signal. Soon, another speeding truck comes from behind and crashes into the i20. The result is i20 getting crushed between both of them. Since the height of the trucks is higher, the i20 literally came under both of them. The front portion of the hatch reaches the rear axle of the truck.

Clearly, the speeding truck driver is at fault. Since the i20 is stuck under both of them, it was difficult to remove it. Thankfully, the passengers inside the car were safe and escaped with some injuries. As for the car, it has been completely damaged without any chance for repair. See the condition of the car here.
The front portion including bumper, grille and the bonnet has received a massive damage. The front windscreen has also been broken due to the bumper of the front truck directly affecting it. The doors and side fender seem to have controlled the damage so that the driver remains same. Even the wheels and axle seem to be unaffected.
The rear portion has been completely dismantled and you can only see the rear wheels. The boot and even the rear passenger seats have taken a massive hit. Since the passengers were seated at the front, there were no casualties. If anyone would have been seated at the back, it could have had a very serious outcome.

Hyundai is going to launch the new generation i20 in the coming months. It will get a fresh design language, inspired by the latest global models. A 1.5 Litre diesel engine and a 1.0 Litre turbo petrol engine will also make their way on the i20. It will get new features like internet car technology, electric sunroof, air purifier and more.
