Latest reports suggest that Kia is working on a Seltos EV which will be launched globally as well as in the Indian market.

Kia Seltos is immensely popular in the Indian market, making it to the top 10 best selling cars of India a couple of times. With a wide range of variants and trims to choose from, it caters to buyers having different kinds of budget. Even Kia’s second and costlier product, Carnival, found its fair share of buyers in India.

Reports online suggest that globally, Kia is developing an EV based on the Seltos. Since the SUV is very popular even in the global markets, it makes sense to make an EV based on it. Reportedly, the EV is under development and will soon go through the testing phase. The global launch is expected to happen by 2021.

We are mostly expecting China to be the first market to get the Seltos EV because electric mobility is most popular in this country. The India launch might happen, however not anytime soon. Possibly, after a year of it being in the global market and after Kia launching a couple of more cars in India, it might bring over the Seltos EV.

Kia’s parent brand, Hyundai already has the Kona EV being sold in India. Chances are that the electric Kia Seltos might take a helping hand from Kona. The dimensions of Kona are bigger than the Venue but smaller than Creta. If this is the case, the Seltos might also be priced similar to the Kona.

As of now, the Hyundai Kona uses 39.2 kWh advanced lithium-ion polymer battery which produces 136 bhp with 394 Nm of peak torque. The car takes about 9.7 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h. The battery gets a liquid cooling technology. The driving range claimed by Hyundai is 452 kms.

As of now, the upcoming products from Kia for India include the Sonet sub-compact SUV. At the Auto Expo 2020, it launched the Carnival. The upcoming rival for Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza will be launched in a couple of months, just around the festive season.
