The new 2020 Honda City that will soon be launched in India secured a 5-star safety rating in the ASEAN NCAP Crash tests.
We all know for a fact that most of the Honda cars are highly reliable and long lasting. We still see the old CRV or the first-generation City cruising around effortlessly. Looks like the same will happen with the new Honda City as it is the safest sedan in its segment, securing a 5-star safety rating.
Although, we should first clarify that the Thai-spec 2020 Honda City is slightly different than the India-spec, the latter being bigger. The safety features are almost the same with a couple of tech-based features extra on the Thai-spec. To summarise, there’s no major difference between them as the components and platform used are the same.
The new City has scored 86.54 out of 100 points in the safety rating. Out of that, 44.83 goes for adult protection, 22.85 for child protection and 18.89 for the safety tech. The crashed mule is the mid-spec SV variant with four airbags and not six. We might possibly see a 4-star or a 5-star safety rating in the global NCAP crash test too.

Features on the top-spec Honda City include six airbags, ABS with EBD, multi-view reverse camera, hill start assist, emergency stop signal and vehicle stability assist (VSA). Reports suggest that these features could also come on the India-spec City.
There are very few sedans that have received good safety rating in India. The list includes Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze and Toyota Etios, all three securing four-star safety rating. The top three safest cars in India include Mahindra XUV300, Tata Altroz and Tata Nexon.
The new Honda City has been revealed in India and its bookings have unofficially begun. The launch is scheduled to happen in the month of July. It continues with the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines along with the same gearbox options. There are reports that a mild-hybrid system might be introduced later sometime.

While we were also expecting the diesel-automatic combination, Honda has not equipped the new City with it. Prime features include six airbags, new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, internet car technology with integrated Alexa assist, a new analogue speedometer, electric sunroof and much more.
