Volkswagen T-Roc is Already Sold Out in India Despite the Lockdown

Only 1000 units of the Volkswagen T-Roc for allotted to India for this year, all of which has already been spoken for and that’s despite the lockdown for over past two months.

Volkswagen launched the T-Roc SUV in India earlier this March at a price of Rs 19.99 lakh. It was a much anticipated SUV but owing to the fact that it comes as a full import, the Volkswagen T-Roc wasn’t the most affordable of cars. However, Volkswagen has still managed to sell out all the 1000 units of the T-Roc that were allotted for the Indian market. And that’s quite an achievement for Volkswagen as the T-Roc went on sale just before the lockdown and even in this period, all units of the T-Roc have been spoken for. The T-Roc comes to India under the 2500 car import rule without the need for homologation.

Although expensive, it’s not the priciest among its competitors. The T-Roc rivals the Jeep Compass and the recently launched Skoda Karoq. Although the Compass has a much lower starting price than the T-Roc, it also goes on to be much more expensive for its top-end trim. As for the Karoq, it’s priced at Rs 24.99 lakh which is quite more expensive than the T-Roc. What has also worked in the T-Roc’s favor is its packaging. The T-Roc boasts of a very stylish design with a more crossover approach than an outright SUV. The highly raked A- and C-Pillars make a great style statement and its feature packed on the inside with a very modern and progressive approach.

Volkswagen offers the T-Roc in India in a single fully loaded trim and so it comes equipped with all the goodies you could wish for. That includes 8.0-inch touchscreen (that is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible), full-LED headlamps and tail-lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, ‘Vienna’ leather seats and Cruise Control. Standard safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a rear parking camera.

Volkswagen is offering the T-Roc with just one petrol engine in India. It gets a 1.5 Litre turbo-petrol TSI engine that produces 150bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The same engine is also offered on the Skoda Karoq in the exact same spec of tune. In comparison to the Jeep Compass Petrol – which is the direct competitor for the T-Roc – the VW is slightly less powered as the Compass produces 161bhp from its 1.4L petrol engine. The engine in the T-Roc comes mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox which is the only gearbox in option.

The T-Roc has been positioned below the Tigaun AllSpace in the company’s lineup and it will sit above the upcoming Taigun SUV that’s due next year. As already mentioned, the T-Roc competes with the Jeep Compass priced from Rs 15.50 lakh to Rs 21.92 lakh and the Skoda Karoq priced at Rs 24.99 lakh. Apart from that, for its price, the T-Roc also rivals the likes of the Tata Harrier, and top-end trims of the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta.
