Your Car Could Catch Fire If You Keep Hand Sanitizer In It – Here’s How

Due to the coronavirus, many people have started keeping their hand sanitizer in the car. However, it could be a very dangerous fire hazard.

Now that we are in Unlock 1.0, many people have started going outside and continuing with their regular life. Even now, it is advisable to step out only for essentials but people are considerably taking precautions. One such precaution is keeping a hand sanitizer in your car so that you can sanitize the minute you step out of the car and come back in.

However, there are some reports revealed by firefighters in USA suggesting that Hand Sanitizer in a car is a big danger. It could literally catch fire and your car would burst in just a couple of seconds. Primarily, it is an alcohol based thing which is highly flammable. This also means that you should avoid keeping hand sanitizer in any part of the car, be it the seat, glovebox or dashboard.

First of all, the plastic bottle of sanitizer itself can be melted because of the sunlight magnified through the windows. Then if the hand sanitizer is under heavy sunlight its already halfway through a fire. If it comes in contact with smoke from cigarettes or barbecue grill or any other thing, it could easily catch fire.

The report says that there have been many instances of it across USA and even other countries. Even keeping a plastic bottle inside the car is very dangerous. We all know having a hand sanitizer in car is very practical but in a tropical country like India, where there is heavy sunlight throughout the day, it is dangerous.

The best way would be to just carry it in your pocket every time you step out of your house. Even if your car is in the shade, it would get hot because it is summer. Some time or other it would be dangerous. Other techniques like keeping baby wipes soaked in sanitizer or your handkerchief, etc also possess the same threat.
