Honda has finally announced the prices of the new generation City in India, which now starts at Rs 10.89 Lakhs. The sedan has already started reaching dealerships across the country and we are expecting the deliveries to commence by this month. New features, BS6 compliant engines and larger dimensions are the highlights of the new City.
In India, we now get the fifth generation of Honda City. The same engines are used but are now BS6 compliant. The new City gets a new 1.5 Litre petrol i-VTEC but the same 1.5 Litre i-DTEC diesel engine. The petrol engine will be capable of producing 120 BHP and 145 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine will produce 100 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque.

The new City is 4.55 metres long, 1.75 metres wide and 1.49 metres tall. It is slightly bigger than the outgoing version. This could mean that the new City will be more spacious than its rivals as well. It will compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Toyota Yaris.
10 Features That You Will Find On New Honda City But Not On Maruti Ciaz
1. Automatic LED Headlamps
City will come with LED headlamps on the top-spec trims. On the top-end trims itself, the sedan will also be offered with automatic day/night headlamps. A handy feature for people who usually forget to switch off their headlight.
2. Electric Sunroof
In this segment, Verna and City are the only ones offering an electric sunroof and will continue to do so. Sunroof are not that popular in India because of our climatic conditions. However, younger buyers often consider the availability of an electric sunroof.
3. Diesel Engine
This is not a feature per se, but an important highlight over Maruti Ciaz. The latter may have one of the most fuel-efficient petrol engines in its segment, but the need for a diesel engine is felt. The new City will get a 1.5 Litre diesel engine with a 6-speed MT as standard. In the segment, it will be among the two cars that offer a diesel engine.
4. Hill Start Assist
If you are climbing a slope and after releasing the clutch, the car is going backwards the Hill Start Assist feature kicks in. The system automatically assists the car in going up at a limited speed. The new City will offer this but we are not sure if on manual gearbox too.
5. Semi-Digital Instrument Cluster With G-Meter
The new City gets a semi-digital instrument cluster which is a premium feature. The speedometer is analogue but the RPM meter is digital and can be customized. You can either select to see the fuel economy, G-Meter or just the trip meter and odometer.
6. Six Airbags
Working more on the safety issues, the new City will get six airbags on the top-spec variant. It will include dual front airbags as standard with additional side and curtain airbags.
7. Vehicle Stability Control
VSC is used to prevent the wheel slip while cornering or taking a sudden turn at high speed. This feature indicates that maybe, the new City will get some Sports quotient with it. The current one is more elegant or classy rather than sporty.
8. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System with Deflation Warning
TPMS is a very handy feature as you can check the pressure of your tyre on the instrument cluster itself. If the pressure is lower than suggested, then it will automatically display low air pressure. Additionally, it also gets a deflation warning which tells you if the tyre is deflated or not.
9. Internet Car Technology With Alexa
Internet car technology is a trending thing that is seen on many upcoming cars. New City is the first one from the manufacturer to offer it. For the technology, Honda has paired up with inbuilt Alexa system. That along with a new touchscreen infotainment and updated electronics will offer you a great experience.
10. Lane Watch Camera
The last highlight is also a segment first feature. With lane watch camera, you can see if there’s any car on your sides using cameras attached on ORVMs. You can keep a check on car coming in the side lane or even while taking a turn.
