Here’s a look at the detailed price list of the 2020 Honda City in India

Variants 1.5L Petrol MT 1.5L Petrol CVT 1.5L Diesel MT
V Rs 10,89,900 Rs 12,19,900 Rs 12,39,900
VX Rs 12,25,900 Rs 13,55,900 Rs 13,75,900
ZX Rs 13,14,900 Rs 14,44,900 Rs 14,64,900

In comparison, the outgoing generation of the Honda City is priced from Rs 9.91 lakh to Rs 14.31 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. While the difference in the base price between two generations of the City is about Rs 1 lakh, the price for the top-end petrol-CVT model is roughly the same. Honda could have done a better job there. Also, in comparison to other compact sedans like the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento or the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the new Honda City is considerably more expensive. It’s price is however comparable with those of the Hyundai Verna and Toyota Yaris.

The fifth-gen Honda City is a evolution of the current-gen car in terms of design. The new sedan retains its overall profile to the outgoing model but is significantly more sophisticated and premium in terms of design. The face is dominated by a thick chrome grille and there new sharper LED headlamps as well. The bumper is much more contoured and the face has a nice layered effect. In profile, there’s a strong shoulder line running from the headlamps to the tail lamps and the dual-tone alloy wheels look great too. The rear end gets sleeker three-dimensional tail lamps and a sporty looking bumper. The car looks much more sleeker than before.

Under the hood, the new Honda City will be powered by 1.5L petrol and diesel engines. Although the 1.5L diesel engine is being carried over from the previous-gen car, the 1.5L petrol engine is a completely new unit and comes with new twin-cam setup. The petrol engine has been tuned to produce 119hp and 145Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional CVT automatic gearbox.

The diesel engine has been updated to comply with the BS6 norms and it continues to produce 100bhp and 200Nm of torque, just like the BS4-spec City. Honda is offering the new City diesel only with a 6-speed manual gearbox option and there’s no automatic. The new City is also among the only two cars in this segment to be offered with a diesel engine, the other being Hyundai Verna. The previous-gen City will be sold as a petrol only model with the previous iteration of the 1.5L iVTEC petrol engine.

On the inside however, the dashboard design is complete new with a more simplistic and minimalist design approach. It is also much better feature equipped than the current-gen car. An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center place on the dashboard and thankfully, Honda has done away with the touch panel for the climate controls. The new climate controls have manual dials and buttons that feel very tactile and good to use. The cabin is very well finished and feels premium with faux wood and leatherette inlays on the dashboard as well.
