New Entry-Level Audi Q2 SUV Coming to India in September!

The Audi Q2 will be the brands new entry-point in India and is slated for a launch in September this year. This is the first time the Q2 is coming to India and some dealerships have already started taking order.

Stepping into the BS6 era, Audi discontinued almost their entire lineup in India except for the Q8, A8L and the A6. They are soon going to launch the new RS7 in India on July 16 but they have primarily been operating only in the far end of the luxury market in India. There has been no entry-level or mid-range models from Audi as of yet, after stepping into the BS6 era. However, what comes as quite a surprise, Audi India has now lined up the Q2 SUV for a launch in India in September 2020 and it is going to be their new sales driver in India.

Audi is bringing the all-new Q2 to India this September and it could be the brand's new entry point.

The Q2 is the smallest SUV in Audi’s global lineup and this is the first time its coming to India. It was first showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and has been considered for India since then. It’s going to be the new entry-point in Audi’s lineup of SUVs in India and will slot below the next-gen Q3, which by the way is also headed our way in the coming months. The Audi Q2 is underpinned by the VW Group’s MQB platform, and measures 4,191mm in length, 1,794mm in width, 1,508mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,601mm.

Although the Q2 is distinctly identifiable as an Audi SUV, it still has some uniqueness setting it apart from the rest of the family. One of them has to be the more squarish headlamps and tail lamps in contrast to much sleeker lights seen on other Audis. There’s also a very unique R8-style blade on the C-pillar that can be optioned in multiple finishes and gives it a distinctive look. The face gets a large single piece grille and the bumpers look rather sporty. There’s black cladding all around the SUV to give it a rugged appeal and the rear has a squat stance, thanks to a wide tailgate and the tail lamps.

On the inside, the dashboard of the Q2 is a lot similar to the last-gen A3 we had in India and is actually the previous-gen interior design language. While it may not be as flashy and oh-so-digital as newer Audis, the design is surely aesthetic enough and the ergonomics are actually much better, thanks to physical dials and buttons. You still get those turbine style air-vents and and a high-set multimedia screen operated via a rotary dial on the center console. It still looks fresh and is dead easy to use.

The range-topping Technology variant of the Q2 boasts of features such as LED headlamps, smart looking alloy wheels, Audi’s ‘MMI Navigation Plus’ infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and a 12.3-inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument cluster. Safety features will include multiple airbags, ABS, electronic stability control and traction control.

The Audi Q2 will have a sole powertrain option in India and that will be a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine in the 40TFSI guise. It produces 190bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. Considering the compact dimensions of the SUV, it will have pretty good performance as Audi claims a 0-100 kph sprint time of just 6.5 seconds and then it will go on for a top-speed of 228 kph. That’s seriously quick for a small SUV. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission paired with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Audi will officially open bookings for the Q2 from August in India but some dealerships have already started taking order for the upcoming SUV. It is expected to be priced between Rs 35-48 lakh range (ex-showroom) and could be the new entry-point into Audi’s range in India. It is however half a size smaller than the entry-level SUVs of rival brands like the BMW X1, the Volvo XC40 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA. Therefore, the Q2 will have no direct competitor in India. We are very excited to see how this newest offering from Audi fares in India.
