New Honda City Vs Competition – Detailed Price Comparison

New Honda City Vs Maruti Suzuki Ciaz / Hyundai Verna Facelift / Toyota Yaris / Skoda Rapid / Volkswagen Vento Complete Price Comparison

Honda finally brings in the new generation 2020 City to India, as a heavy upgrade to the older version. The sedan is now bigger than the previous version, gets a completely revised styling, new features and a heavily updated petrol engine. Here is the price comparison between the new City and its other executive sedan segment rivals which include Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.

New Honda City Vs Competition – Detailed Price Comparison

Honda City Vs Maruti Ciaz

Honda City 1.5L Petrol MT 1.5L Petrol CVT 1.5L Diesel MT
V Rs 10,89,900 Rs 12,19,900 Rs 12,39,900
VX Rs 12,25,900 Rs 13,55,900 Rs 13,75,900
ZX Rs 13,14,900 Rs 14,44,900 Rs 14,64,900

Maruti Ciaz is a lot cheaper than the new City, nearly by Rs 3 Lakhs. Even the top-end S trim of Ciaz is cheaper than the starting V trim of the City. However, the latter being a base trim, offers more features than the Ciaz. There’s additional advantage that the City offers a diesel engine which is costlier than the top-end trim of Ciaz by nearly Rs 2 Lakhs. However, you get more torque and better mileage.

Maruti Ciaz Petrol Petrol AT
Sigma Rs 8.3 Lakhs
Delta 8.93 Lakhs 9.97 Lakhs
Zeta 9.70 Lakhs 10.80 Lakhs
Alpha 9.97 Lakhs Rs 11.09 Lakhs
S 10.08 Lakhs

Honda City Vs Hyundai Verna

Honda City 1.5L Petrol MT 1.5L Petrol CVT 1.5L Diesel MT
V Rs 10,89,900 Rs 12,19,900 Rs 12,39,900
VX Rs 12,25,900 Rs 13,55,900 Rs 13,75,900
ZX Rs 13,14,900 Rs 14,44,900 Rs 14,64,900

Here is a very tough competition as both of them are the most feature-rich and premium sedans of the segment. The base variant of Verna is definitely cheaper but the SX trim of Verna is equivalent to the V trim of City. So, that wise, the difference is not that huge. The upper price range of Verna is higher because it offers a Diesel-AT combination, otherwise, it is cheaper than the City.

Hyundai Verna facelift
Verna Petrol MT Petrol IVT Diesel MT Diesel AT Turbo Petrol DCT
S 9.3 Lakhs
S Plus 10.65 Lakhs
SX 10.70 Lakhs 11.95 Lakhs 12.05 Lakhs 13.20 Lakhs
SX (O) 12.59 Lakhs 13.84 Lakhs 13.94 Lakhs 15.09 Lakhs 13.99 Lakhs

Honda City Vs Volkswagen Vento

Honda City 1.5L Petrol MT 1.5L Petrol CVT 1.5L Diesel MT
V Rs 10,89,900 Rs 12,19,900 Rs 12,39,900
VX Rs 12,25,900 Rs 13,55,900 Rs 13,75,900
ZX Rs 13,14,900 Rs 14,44,900 Rs 14,64,900

Before the BS6 norms came in form, Vento was one of the costliest sedans in the segment. After ditching the diesel engine and DSG gearbox, it now gets a 1.0 Litre TSI engine only. What we can see here is that all other sedans offer their base variants for a cheaper price. However, the City does not have a base variant and even its V trim gets most of the premium features. In any case, Vento is a cheaper option than City, but latter offers more features.

Vento Petrol Petrol AT
Trendline 8.86 Lakhs
Comfortline Plus 9.99 Lakhs
Highline 9.99 Lakhs 12.09 Lakhs
TSI Edition 10.99 Lakhs

Honda City Vs Skoda Rapid

City 1.5L Petrol MT 1.5L Petrol CVT 1.5L Diesel MT
V Rs 10,89,900 Rs 12,19,900 Rs 12,39,900
VX Rs 12,25,900 Rs 13,55,900 Rs 13,75,900
ZX Rs 13,14,900 Rs 14,44,900 Rs 14,64,900

With the launch of BS6 Skoda Rapid, it is now the most affordable sedan in its segment. Its base variant is even cheaper than the Ciaz and offers a lot more features. When comes to the City, you can either go for the V trim or the top-end Rapid Monte Carlo variant for a Lakh extra. Definitely, the latter will get more features but not to a higher extent.

Honda City Vs Toyota Yaris

City 1.5L Petrol MT 1.5L Petrol CVT 1.5L Diesel MT
V Rs 10,89,900 Rs 12,19,900 Rs 12,39,900
VX Rs 12,25,900 Rs 13,55,900 Rs 13,75,900
ZX Rs 13,14,900 Rs 14,44,900 Rs 14,64,900

Prior to the new City and Verna facelift, Yaris was originally the costliest one of the lot. However, due to poor sales, Toyota introduced a lot of cheaper and more practical variants. It now starts at Rs 8.86 Lakhs but offers the most basic features. To match up to the features list of the City, you will have to choose between the V Trim or the G Trim of Yaris.
