New Suzuki A-Cross Hybrid SUV Revealed; Is It Coming To India?

The new Suzuki A-Cross Hybrid, based on the Toyota RAV4, has been revealed for the global market. Any possibility of an India launch?

Suzuki, in the global markets, has revealed the new A-Cross Hybrid SUV. This is the second product which comes from the partnership of Suzuki and Toyota. The launch is expected to happen in the coming months, but it is highly unlikely to enter the Indian market anytime soon. Possibly, in a couple of years.

The new Suzuki A-Cross Hybrid is based on the Toyota RAV4 and is actually a re-engineered version. The technology and engines remain the same with differences limited to styling and features. Now, in the global market, A-Cross becomes the flagship product from the Japanese. In the lineup, it is placed above the Grand Vitara as well.

Primarily, it gets a 2.5 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 175 BHP. Further, it gets two electric motors, one producing 182 BHP and other producing 54 BHP. One motor powers the front axle whereas the other one goes to the rear. Like RAV4, the A-Cross is also a Plug-In Hybrid SUV.

The combined power output is unknown as of now, but reports suggest that it will be above 300 BHP. This will make it the most powerful version of RAV4. Further, its electric motors, combined, will offer a range of nearly 75 kilometres. The total battery capacity is 18.1 kWh and it can alone take the SUV upto a top speed of 135 km/hr.

The A-Cross will come with four driving modes which are pure EV, Automatic EV/HV, HV and Battery Saver. In the HV mode, the petrol engine will offer the additional boost needed when the acceleration pressure is higher. The battery saver mode will completely switch off the electric motors and make the car run on petrol engine.

As per its dimensions go, the Suzuki A-Cross is about 4.65 metres long. This makes it a rival for Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. However, Maruti is not going to launch any EVs or Hybrids for India in the near future. What we could possibly get is the Grand Vitara.
