Prices for the Alto starts from Rs 2.94 lakh and goes up to Rs 3.89 lakh for the top-end variant. That means you will be able to get any variant of the Alto under Rs 4 lakhs and that’s really incredible. The Alto is powered by a 796cc, three-cylinder engine that produces 48PS of power and 69Nm of torque.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
This is the among the newest budget cars in the country and it essentially tries to look like an SUV. Well, SUV or not we don’t know, but its surely a great car for what it is. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is powered by a 1.0L, three-cylinder engine that produces 59PS and 78Nm of torque. Under the budget of Rs 4 lakh, you will be able to get the STD or the STD (O) trims of the S-Presso which only come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There’s also an AMT on offer but that’s a little more expensive.
Renault Kwid
This is another very popular car in this segment and one that has done really well in our market. Renault updated the Kwid with a facelift and more features and it really looks the part. Renault offers a 0.8L and 1.0L three-cylinder, petrol engines with the Kwid but under a budget of Rs 4 lakh, you will only be able to opt the former. The engine produces 54PS and 72Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Under Rs 4 lakh, Renault has three variants of the Kwid – STD, RXE and RXL – priced at Rs 2.92 lakh, Rs 3.62 lakh and Rs 3.92 lakh respectively.

Datsun Redigo
The Datsun Redigo is the newest car in this segment that was just launched with a facelift last month. Prices for the Redigo range from Rs 2.86 lakh to Rs 4.8 lakh, but under the budget of Rs lakh, you will get the D, A, and T variants of the Redigo which are priced at Rs Rs 2.86 lakh, Rs 3.61 lakh and Rs 3.83 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. The Datsun Redigo is powered by the same 0.8L, three-cylinder petrol engine as the Renault Kwid and produces the same 54PS and 72Nm of torque.The Redigo also comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Datsun Go
Here’s another Datsun and the most expensive car on this list. Under a budget of Rs 4 lakh, there’s only one variant of the Go available and that’s the base D trim which is priced at Rs 3.99 lakh. You however get a much larger car with a much larger cabin than any of the other cars here on this list to justify the premium. You also get a bigger 1.2L petrol engine which is also more powerful with 68PS and 104Nm of torque. This too comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
