Suzuki has yet again hiked the price of the BS6 Gixxer 155 and the Gixxer SF 155 by about Rs 2,000. The BS6 Gixxer 155 is now the most expensive motorcycle in its class with this new price hike.
Just about a month ago, Suzuki completed its BS6 range of scooters and motorcycles in India with the launch of the BS6 complaint Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250. Suzuki has now yet again increased the price of its Gixxer range of motorcycles and this time, its the Gixxer 155s. Both the BS6 Suzuki Gixxer and the Gixxer SF see a price hike of about Rs 2,000. With this price hike, the Gixxer has now become the most expensive 160cc naked motorcycle in its segment. Here’s a table summarizing the new prices.

Just yesterday, Honda also launched the BS6 complaint version of the X-Blade for a price of Rs 1.07 lakh, ex-showroom. Even though the X-Blade saw a hike in price of more Rs 17,000 over the BS4-spec motorcycle, it still undercuts the price of the Gixxer by about Rs 5,000. Hero recently launched the Xtreme 160R and they have done a great job of pricing it as the most affordable motorcycle in its segment. The Hero Xtreme 160R is available for a starting price of Rs 1 lakh.
Even when Suzuki updated the Gixxer and the Gixxer SF to their BS6-spec, the motorcycles already saw an increment in price by Rs 11,000 and Rs 12,000 respectively. With BS6 transition and factoring in the Covid-19 situation (as this hike in price seems to be an effect of the same), these 160cc naked motorcycles have become a little too expensive for what they are. Even a few months ago, these motorcycles were priced at least under a lakh but now, the prices have crossed the Rs 1 lakh barrier by a significant amount for most motorcycles.

The BS6 Gixxer and SF continue with the same 155cc air-cooled fuel-injected engine. The motor produces 13.6 PS and 13.8 Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the BS4 version produced 14.1 PS and 14 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The mileage of the motorcycle has however increased by 10-15% with BS6 update. For suspension, Gixxer and Gixxer SF use telescopic forks at the front with a monoshock at the back. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both the ends with a single-channel ABS as standard. Features onboard include LED headlamps and tail lamps, fully digital instrument console, split seat setup, clip-on handlebar for the SF and dual-tip exhaust port.

The Gixxer, it competes with other sporty commuters like Hero Xtreme 160R, Yamaha FZ V3, Honda X Blade, Honda CB Hornet 160R and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. In comparison to the Gixxer, the X-Blade is torquier while the Hero Xtreme is the most powerful in its class. While the Gixxer still is a good motorcycle, its value-for-money factor has taken a huge hit with its recent price hikes. The Gixxer SF meanwhile goes against the likes of Bajaj Pulsar 220F, Hero Xtreme 200S and KTM RC 125.
