This is one of the best examples of restoration on a classic car we have seen a while, in this case a 1946 Ford GPW, which has been kept as close to the original as possible and still uses some its original parts from 1946.
Our country has quite a vibrant culture of restoring old and classic vehicles and we have featured many of them on our website over the past. However, the one we have today is quite a special one. Most car enthusiasts have a soft corner for vintage Jeeps and although these cars are nowhere as comfortable or sophisticated, they still have a cult following and a beautiful old school charm. Here we have a 1946 Ford GPW that has been restored and we can’t stop drooling. It has taken the owner about 8 months to restore the vehicle and just about Rs 3.5 lakhs to build this beauty.
With just one glance at the car, you already know that it’s a very old car but the restoration job has been absolutely stunning. The video has been uploaded by YuVlogs on his youtube channel. What’s really commendable about this restoration job is that it has been restored as close to the original car as was possible and still uses some genuine Ford parts as it would have when it was rolled fresh off the factory.
This Ford GPW Jeep has been painted in a light shade of brown and we must say it really suits the character of the car well. Even the steel wheels come painted in the same shade of brown. This of course is a left-hand drive vehicle and that has been retained even after the restoration. That mean’s this was an import when it originally came to the country. It still comes fitted with the original Ford plaques on the interiors about its mechanicals and its registration. It does not get more original than this.
This Ford GPW is of course a soft-top and it looks beautiful with that. The face gets the signature vertical slats with round headlamps and the radiator fluid can is mounted outside the engine bay. Even the hooter on the right front fender and the shovel on the left side panel has been retained as it is. During the restoration process, the workshop has retained as many as original parts that they could, for example, the frame that holds the soft top on this vehicle is original and still has the Ford’s logo on it. The rear of the car comes fitted with a jerrycan and spare wheel.

On the inside, the seats on this vehicle have been redone and do not look so original as it might have come fitted from the factory. The seats get black upholstery and the second row gets a front facing seat along with two side facing seats on either side. Honestly, the restoration job on this car is so perfect and genuine that this car could take part in classic car shows and come out with lots of admiration and perhaps, even some prizes.

This however is a very old vehicle and it would not be realisticto expect the engine to be stock as well. Likewise, the original engine on this vehicle has been swapped with a diesel engine from a Mahindra Bolero. Considering that this is a pretty light vehicle, performance from the modern engine will be pretty sprightly too. Also, the Ford GPW was originally a 4×4 but nothing has been mentioned of this vehicle retaining its 4×4 system after the restoration process. The low ratio gearbox was also missing in the cabin. It is thus safe to assume that it no longer boasts of a 4×4 system.
