Here’s The Variant-Wise Features List of the BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol

The BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol is available in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha – and it comes across as a well equipped, feature rich car. But is it at par with the competition? Not quite!

Last week, Maruti Suzuki launched the BS6 S-Cross petrol in India for a starting price of Rs 8.39 lakh, going all the way up to Rs 12.39 lakh. With the BS6 transition, the S-Cross has now moved on a petrol heart, ditching the older 1.3L diesel engine that had been the mainstay of the car ever since its launch. Apart from the change of engine, the BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross hasn’t changed any bit in terms of design or features on offer.

The BS6 S-Cross is now available in two powertrain configurations spread across four trim levels – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The powertrain in question is a 1.5L, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 105hp and 138Nm of peak torque. This engine is available either with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and thankfully, Maruti Suzuki has featured their SHVS mild-hybrid system on all variants of the S-Cross.

With this new engine, the S-Cross is more powerful by 15hp over the previous 90hp 1.3L diesel engine. However, with just 138Nm of peak torque, it is considerably less torque-ey when compared to the 200Nm of peak torque that was available from the diesel engine. Thankfully, the mild-hybrid system helps compensate some bit of it by a mild torque boost when getting off the line and also better fuel efficiency, which by the way, was one of the strong points of the older diesel engine. The S-Cross petrol’s ARAI-rated fuel economy is 18.55kpl for the manual and 18.43kpl for the automatic.

Now, we have got our hands on the variant-wise features list of the BS6 S-Cross petrol and here’s your quick look at the same.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross thus comes across a fairly well equipped car with all the goodies and necessities you could ask from a car that costs above Rs 10 lakh. Going by its dimensions and its price point, the S-Cross actually sits in the mid-size SUV segment where it competes with the likes of the Renault Duster, the Nissan Kicks, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. However, in comparison to all these, it is neither a proper SUV, nor as contemporary as any of its rivals.

We recently did a price comparison of the S-Cross with its mid-size SUV rivals and also with sub-compact SUVs. Although the sub-compact SUVs are not a direct rival to the S-Cross, their pricing directly overlaps each other. You can take a look at that in the link above. The question is which of these is better value-for-money. In our opinion, if size isn’t your out right concern, the sub-compact SUVs are also great alternatives as they are much more contemporary, look far better and some even boast of a better equipment list. Hence, why not?
