Mahindra Brings Back BS6 Diesel Automatic XUV500 – Price and Details!

Mahindra has re-introduced diesel automatic variants in the BS6 XUV500 range, and the price starts from Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). It was previously discontinued as we stepped into the BS6 era.

Mahindra has reintroduced the option of an automatic gearbox on the XUV500 range. The automatic gearbox options was previously discontinued from the XUV500 range as we stepped into the BS6 era but it has now been brought back for the diesel-only SUV. The diesel-automatic engine-gearbox combination will be available on the top three variants of the XUV500 – W7, W9 and W11(O) – and the price starts from Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). Here’s the detailed price list of the BS6 Mahindra XUV500 diesel automatic.

This automatic gearbox in question is a Aisin-sourced 6-speed, torque-converter automatic unit and it comes mated to the 2.2L mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. The engine produces 155hp and 360Nm of torque. In fact, the specs and the combination are exactly the same as the BS4-spec XUV500. The automatic gearbox also comes with a creep function and a sequential manual mode.

The diesel automatic variants of the XUV500 are about Rs 1.21 lakh more expensive than their manual counterparts, again same as the BS4-spec model. The diesel automatic Mahindra XUV300 is quite unique in its segment for being the only three-row SUV in this price segment. However, it does compete with other five-seater diesel automatic SUVs in this price range which includes the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Kia Seltos.

The XUV500 will have real competition when the Tata Gravitas and the Hyundai Creta 7-seater are launched, both three-row SUVs which are expected to arrive in 2021, and will likely also be offered in diesel automatic variants. Currently, the XUV500 also faces direct competition from the the six-seat MG Hector Plus in this price range. However, while the Hector Plus is a petrol-only SUV, the XUV500 only comes with a diesel engine.

Going ahead, Mahindra has a lot in store for the Indian market. First up will be the launch of the new-gen Thar on October 2, 2020. That will be followed by the launch of a turbo-petrol version of the XUV300 with 130hp, powered by the company’s 1.2-litre mStallion petrol engine. Mahindra also has completely new-gen models of the XUV500 and the Scorpio coming up next year.
