BS6 Kawasaki Z900 Launched for a Price of Rs 7.99 Lakh!

The BS6 Kawasaki Z900 is sees a premium in price by Rs 29,000 but for that amount, Kawasaki has thrown in a bunch of updates apart from just BS6 compliance. That includes new riding modes, a new 4.2-inch color TFT screen and also smartphone connectivity.

Kawasaki has launched the BS6-complaint 2021 Z900 is India for a price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Kawasaki had announced in December last year that the BS6 Z900 would be launched in the country around March 2020. However, it was inevitably delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. At that time, Kawasaki had said the motorcycle would be priced between Rs 7.5-8 lakh and and the pricing of the BS6 motorcycle is quite nice, given that its just Rs 29,000 more expensive than the BS4 version.

For the premium, Kawasaki has thrown in a bunch of upgrades as well apart from just BS6-complaince. That includes four new riding modes – Sport, Rain, Road and Manual – along with three levels of traction control and two power modes as well. The 2021 BS6 Kawasaki Z900 also gets a new 4.2-inch TFT instrument console with color display and it also features Kawasaki’s Rideaology App that brings in Bluetooth-based smartphone connectivity.

Although there has been no design or styling changes on the BS6 Z900, the halogen headlamps of the BS4-spec motorcycle have been replaced by new full-LED headlamps. In fact, the turn indicators and the tail lamps are also LED units now. Kawasaki is offering the BS6 Z900 is two color options – Metallic Graphite Gray and Candy Lime Green. The last update is that the motorcycle now rides on Dunlop Sportsmax Roadsport 2 tyres.

The Kawasaki Z900 is now powered by a BS6/Euro5-compliant 948 cc in-line four-cylinder engine that develops 123 bhp at 9500 rpm and 98.6 Nm of peak torque at 7700 rpm. The figures are actually marginally lower than the BS4-spec motorcycle. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. Kawasaki also claims that the suspension setup has been improved for better handling.

For braking, the Kawasaki Z900 uses dual 300 mm petal discs at the front and a single 250 mm petal disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS. The 2021 Kawasaki Z900 BS6 competes with the Triumph Street Triple R in India and it actually undercuts the price of British motorcycle by a huge Rs 85,000. It will also competes with the likes of the Ducati Monster 821, Suzuki GSX-S750, Yamaha MT-09 and the KTM 790 Duke, once BS6 iterations of these motorcycles have been launched in the country as well.
