MG ZS Petrol Spied Testing in India; Launch in Early-2021

The petrol-powered MG ZS SUV will come to India as a new facelifted version and it has just been spied testing in India. The launch of the MG ZS petrol is expected to happen by early-2021.

MG Motors had showcased the ZS petrol and the 2020 Auto Expo and now, a camouflaged test mule has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. Going by the spy shot, this is clearly the facelifted version of the ZS SUV. The MG ZS EV that’s currently on sale in India is based on the pre-facelift version. Even the model showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo was this facelifted version of the SUV.

The facelifted version of the ZS SUV gets restyled front and rear bumpers along with a blacked-out grille. The headlamps and the tail lamps on the facelifted SUV are also much sharper and sleeker. This car also gets a different set of alloys from what we have seen on the ZS EV. The rest of the design is pretty similar though. Although there are only a few revisions here and there, its not very difficult to distinguish the ICE-powered ZS from the ZS EV.

Apart from what’s under the hood, the two ZS SUV are actually not much different from each other. The ICE-powered facelifted ZS SUV certainly looks more sharper and perhaps a little more handsome than its EV cousin. Also, just like its EV cousin, the petrol-powered ZS also gets a panoramic sunroof. We expect the interior layout to be identical to the ZS EV. The analog dials could however be replaced by a digital display. Other tech should be carried forward from the ZS EV.

The MG ZS gets quite a few engine options under its hood – there’s a 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 110hp and 160Nm of torque; a 1.3L turbo-petrol engine that produces 160hp and 230Nm of torque; and a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with 120hp and 150Nm of torque. The 1.0L and 1.3L turbo-petrol engines come mated to a 6-speed AT while the 1.5L petrol engine gets a CVT gearbox. The India-spec ZS could be powered by either the 1.0L or the 1.3L turbo-petrol engines.

The MG ZS petrol is expected to launch in India only by early-2021. Currently, MG Motors has the Gloster SUV coming up as one of their biggest launches of the year and that is what the company would want to focus on currently. The prices of the ZS petrol are expected to begin from around Rs 12 lakh and it will compete with SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
