Here Are The Top 5 Most Fuel Efficient Mid-Size SUVs in India!

Although SUVs aren’t inherently fuel-efficient as compared to hatchbacks, here we have compiled a list of the five most fuel-efficient mid-size SUVs available in the market right now.

SUVs are among the most loved body styles in cars these days and this trend is going nowhere anytime soon. In India, the mid-size SUV segment is one of the most competitive segments of all and it continues to grow at an alarming rate. We already have established leaders in this segment and we still continue too see more players coming in. However, SUVs are naturally fuel efficient but that continues to be a concern for most SUV buyers. So here we have compiled a list the five-most fuel efficient mid-size SUVs available in the market right now.

Hyundai Creta

The Creta is in fact one of the most fuel-efficient mid-size SUVs in its segment.

The Hyundai Creta has been an absolute benchmark since its inceptions and with its new generation, it continues to be a favorite among Indians. The looks of the new generation car may not be to everyone’s taste but it is feature packed to the brim as always and is still good value-for-money. Hyundai offers the Creta with 1.5L petrol and diesel engines along with a 1.4L turbo-petrol engine. The diesel versions of the Creta have a real world mileage of 17kmpl and 18kmpl for manual and automatic variants respectively. Meanwhile, petrol versions of the Creta have a mileage of 12kmpl and 16kmpl for manual and automatic variants respectively. The Creta is in fact one of the most fuel-efficient mid-size SUVs in its segment.

Kia Seltos

Just like the Creta, the Seltos has class leading with its fuel-efficient engines among mid-size SUVs

The Kia Seltos is essentially Hyundai Creta’s sibling and if we are acclaiming the Creta for its fuel efficiency, we have to do so for the Creta as well. It turns out that the Kia Seltos has become more popular than the Creta, primarily because of its stunning looks and premium interiors with many segment-only features. Under the hood, the Seltos features the same 1.5L petrol and diesel engines and the 1.4l turbo petrol engine as the Creta. Naturally, the real-world fuel efficiency figures of the Seltos are quite similar to that of the Creta for both the petrol and diesel engines. Just like the Creta, the Seltos has class-leading fuel efficiency as well.

MG Hector

The Hector is the only SUV in the segment to get a mild-hybrid powertrain and its fuel efficiency is rated at 15.8 kmpl.

Here’s another brand new SUV and one that has been received by customers very well. It is quite a rat race among car manufacturers with features these days and the Hector sure does not fall behind. It arrived before the Seltos and the Creta and has already set its foot quite well in the market. It looks pretty decent too and is the largest of the mid-size SUVs. The Seltos gets three engine options under the hood – 2.0-litre diesel, 1.5 petrol hybrid, and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The diesel version of the Hector returns a mileage of 17.4kmpl while the petrol returns 14.16 kmpl. The Hector is also the only SUV in the segment to get a mild-hybrid powertrain and its fuel efficiency is rated at 15.8 kmpl.

The Duster is the original SUV that brought life to the mid-size SUV segment in India years ago. Before the BS6 era, Renault offered the Duster with both petrol and diesel engines. However, in the BS6 era, the Duster is a petrol-only. That’s quite sad as the diesel engine on the Duster was pretty darn efficient, in fact the best in the segment. The Duster is currently powered by a 1.5L petrol engine that gives you a fuel-efficiency figure of 13.06 kmpl. That certainly not the best in its class but certainly better than most other SUVs. Renault will also launch the Duster with a new 1.3L turbo-petrol engine and we will have to wait and find out the fuel efficiency figure of that too.

Just like the Seltos and Creta are sibling cars, the Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks are sibling cars too. There share the same underpinnings and have the same engines under the hood. The Nissan Kicks is a highly underrated SUV and hasn’t enjoyed much commercial success in the market. The Kicks is still a stylish looking SUV that gets a decently equipped interior and it is also more fuel-efficient than most other mid-size SUVs. The Kicks is powered by the same 1.5L petrol and 1.3L turbo-petrol engines as the Duster. Nissan also offers the option of a CVT gearbox on the Kicks. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figure for the petrol-manual and turbo-petrol manual stands at 13.9kpl and 15.8kpl, respectively. However, Nissan is yet to reveal the mileage figures with the CVT gearbox.
