Select Toyota dealers have already started taking unofficial bookings for the Fortuner facelift. The booking amount has been pegged at Rs 50,000 and the launch could be expected by early-2021.
Toyota has quite a few new things coming up here in India. The Japanese automaker just launched the Innova Crysta facelift here in India with prices starting from Rs 16.26 lakh. Following the Innova Crysta, Toyota also has a facelift coming up for the Fortuner full-size SUV. Although there’s no update about when Toyota could launch the updated Fortuner in India, select dealers have already started taking unofficial bookings for the Fortuner facelift. The booking amount has been pegged at Rs 50,000 and the launch could be expected by early-2021.
The facelift for the Fortuner is more comprehensive than it has been for the Innova Crysta facelift. The Fortuner facelift was unveiled in Thailand earlier this year and it is the Thai-spec model that will be coming to India. The face of the Toyota Fortuner has completely been revised with new sleeker headlamps and LED DRL elements. There’s a larger mesh-pattern grille and the bumper too has been complete redesigned with massive fog lamp housings and a redesigned skid plate. Overall, the face of the Fortuner now looks a lot more aggressive and sporty with angular cuts and creases over the rather bulky face of the pre-facelift Fortuner.
The side profile remains largely unchanged but there are new 18-inch alloy wheels and at the rear, the tail lamps have been made much sleeker and the bumper is also more angular than before. Toyota also has a new top-spec ‘Legender ‘ variant of the Fortuner in Thailand which comes with even more aggressive styling. We are however unsure if Toyota would bring this variant to India. It exclusively gets a split grilled design with an even more sportier bumper. Further, all the chrome on the standard SUV has been replaced by a gloss-black trim and there are bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels as well. It also gets a dual tone paint scheme with gloss black elements on the rear bumper and boot lid.

On the inside, not much has changed in terms of the dashboard design. The infotainment system could however be a larger unit at 8.0-inch screen size. The Fortuner will also feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the first time with the facelift. Other additions could include a mildly updated instrument cluster, 8-way power-adjustable driver and passenger seats, LED ambient lighting, 9-speaker JBL audio system, a 360-degree camera and wireless phone charging as well. Other features will be carried forward from the current-gen model.

Toyota even updated the 2.8L diesel engine under the hood of the Fortuner when it was unveiled in Thailand earlier this year. The 2.8L diesel engine in the Fortuner now produces 204 hp and 500Nm of torque. That’s a significant bump in numbers from the 177 hp and 450Nm of peak torque that is produced by this same 2.8L diesel engine in the pre-facelift India-spec Fortuner. The 2.7L petrol engine is also expected to be carried over. Transmission options will continue to be a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. Prices are however expected to go up with this facelift. Currently, the Fortuner retails in India between Rs 28.66 lakh and Rs 34.43 lakh.
