Hero has launched the BS6 Xtreme 200 S in India for Rs 1.15 lakh. That makes it about Rs 15,000 more expensive than before. It however gets a new color scheme along with BS6 compliance with slightly compromised performance.
Hero MotoCorp has relaunched the BS6 Xtreme 200 S in India with prices starting from Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The BS4-spec Xtreme 200 S was discontinued in India a long time back in April as we stepped into the BS6 era. Hero has now again the listed the motorcycle on their website along with its price and several other details as well. Let’s look at the BS6 Hero Xtreme 200 S in a little more detail.
The BS6 Hero Xtreme 200 S mechanically remains unchanged from the BS4-spec motorcycle for most parts of it. That means it continues to be powered by the same 199.6cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. This same engine also does duty on the BS6 Xpulse 200 range. The engine now produces 18.08hp at 8,500rpm and 16.4Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. In comparison, the BS4-spec Xtreme 200 S produced 18.4hp at 8,000rpm and 17.1Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
So there’s a mild change in the output numbers. While power has actually gone up by 0.4hp, peak torque is now less by 0.7Nm of torque. While these changes in numbers wouldn’t have affected the rear world performance of the motorcycle, it must be pointed out that the BS6 Xtreme 200 S is now heavier than before. Performance will thus take a slight hit on the BS6 motorcycle. One of the major updates is the addition of an oil cooler and also a catalytic converter in the exhaust to help comply with the BS6 emission norms.

The addition of oil cooler and catalytic converter has increased the weight of the motorcycle by 5.5kg and it now tips the scales at 154.5kg. Hero has also added their Hero’s AutoSail system, which essentially prevents the motorcycle from stalling at low speeds. Apart from this, there are no other mechanical changes on the motorcycle. Hero has however introduced a new Pearl Fadeless White colour scheme on the BS6 Xtreme 200 S. There are no other styling changes and the graphics remain unchanged as well.

However, the biggest let down is probably the fact that the BS6 Xtreme 200 S now costs about Rs 15,000 more than the BS4-spec bike. That’s a significant premium in price. So far, Hero had done quite well by not hiking prices with BS6 updates by a huge margin. The BS6 Xpulse 200 saw a premium of Rs 6,790 over its predecessor and a similar margin would have worked just right for the Xtreme 200 S as well. Its most direct rival is the smaller Suzuki Gixxer SF which is priced at Rs 1.22 lakh. The Xtreme 200S began reaching dealerships earlier this week, and deliveries of the bike are underway.
