Triumph Trident Powertrain

Just like its elder sibling – the Street Triples – the Trident also uses an inline-three cylinder engine. Its a 660cc unit which pushes out 81hp and 64Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and can additionally also be optioned with an up and down quickshifter. Triumph says that this engine is not the same found on the Street Triple S. Instead, the motor has 67 new components, making it different from the three-cylinder engine found on the Street Triple range. But we hope it sounds just as good as the Street Triple.

Triumph Trident Underpinnings

The Trident however does not use the most premium of components and that helps to keep the costs on check. Suspension duties are carried over by Showa upside down separate function fork at the front and preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is taken care by Nissin two-piston front calipers with twin 310mm discs, while the rear has a single-piston caliper. The Trident is also a fairly light motorcycle, tipping the scales at 189 kg (kerb) and thats down to its tubular steel frame. Also, with much more relaxed ergonomics than the Street Triple range, the Trident should be a friendly motorcycle to ride.

The Trident will come to India next year as a CKD unit and is expected to be priced at about Rs 7 lakh.
