TVS has launched an all-new Apache RTR 200 4V which is now the most affordable motorcycle in the Indian market to feature riding modes and adjustable suspension. It costs just Rs 1,000 more than the standard dual-channel ABS variant of the RTR 200 4V.
TVS recently crossed the 4 million sales mark with their Apache range of motorcycles and that’s a great achievement for a single motorcycle family. TVS then teased us with an upcoming motorcycle a few days ago. It was thought it would be a special edition motorcycle based on one of the Apache models with perhaps just a new livery to commemorate the occasion. But boy, did TVS surprise us! TVS has launched an all-new Apache RTR 200 4V and there’s plenty to talk about it. Its now the most affordable motorcycle in the Indian market to feature riding modes and adjustable suspension.
Apache RTR 200 4V Pricing
Launched for a price of Rs 1.31 lakh, the new Apache RTR 200 4V is only Rs 1,000 more expensive than the standard dual-channel ABS variant of the existing RTR 200 4V. The new model will now replace the existing dual-channel ABS variant. The single-channel ABS variant, meanwhile, misses out on these updates and continues to cost Rs 1.25 lakh. The motorcycle continues to be powered by a 197.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled, fuel-injected motor, with an oil-cooler, but the new riding modes spice things up.
New Riding Modes for the Apache RTR 200 4V
The new RTR 200 4V features three riding modes – Sport, Urban and Rain. In the Sport mode, the engine produces maximum power of 20.8hp and 17.2Nm. Interestingly, these numbers are actually 0.32hp and 0.45Nm more than the current BS6 bike. In the Sport mode, the throttle response is most crisp and the ABS is set to its least intrusive setting. The Sport mode also allows you the maximum top-speed of 127 kph. In the Urban and Rain modes, the engine produces an identical 17.3hp and 16.5Nm but the ABS setting differs for the Rain mode.

In the Urban mode, the power delivery is more linear and it is also a little more fuel efficient. The top-speed in Urban mode is limited to 105 kph while the ABS is more intrusive than in the Sport mode. The Rain mode gives you the most intrusive ABS setting to prevent lock-ups in wet conditions. Mind you, the Apache RTR 200 4V does not come with ride-by-wire. TVS has managed to incorporate riding modes on a motorcycle even with a cable-operated throttle and that is how TVS has managed to make the RTR 200 4V the most affordable motorcycle with riding modes. Switching between the various modes also alters the RPM at which the gear shift light comes on.

What else is segment-first?
Riding modes are not the only novel feature on the RTR 200 4V. The motorcycle also comes with a segment-first front-adjustable suspension. TVS has equipped the updated RTR with a front fork from Showa that is adjustable for preload, again making it the most affordable motorcycle to come with such a feature. In fact, adjustable suspension does not even come on motorcycles a segment or two above. The RTR 200 4V now also features adjustable brake and clutch levers, yet another segment-first. Lastly, the bike gets a new matte blue colour scheme with red decals, which is inspired from the company’s racing colours.
