2021 Tata Safari – Review, Key Features And Driving Impressions!

The all-new 2021 Tata Safari has been unveiled in India and we have driven it first hand. We shall talk you through the key features and our driving impressions of the Safari in detail. Has Tata managed to offer what the old Safari came with or is this one even better than the last-gen Safari? We shall try to answer this question in this article and also discuss what this segment could look like by the end of this year.

2021 Tata Safari – Salient Features

Now, Tata has made it a point to equip their products with all the modern comfort, convenience and safety features. We have seen this with Tata in all their recent products. There are some interesting features with the Safari as well.

Boss Mode

This is a convenience feature that lets the second-row passenger slide the front seat forward by pushing a lever from his seating position. This frees up a ton of space for the second-row passengers and adds to the comfort.

Panoramic Sunroof

What adds to the premium feel of the cabin is the panoramic sunroof offered in the Safari. Complimenting the Oyster White interior theme, the Sunroof gives the passenger the feel of a super airy cabin. If you are someone who feels claustrophobic, then you don’t have to worry about it in the Safari.

6 or 7-Seat Arrangement

Now, the Safari was always a passenger mover and practical car since its inception. This 2021 model carries the practicality forward by offer two seating arrangements. There is a 7-seater variant which has a bench for the second-row passengers. The comfort is not compromised and the practicality is ensured with a split-folding to free up space for your luggage. The 6-seater variant offers captain seats in the second row with a ton of space of offer to slide the seat front and back as well as recline the seat.

Drive Modes

The Tata Safari does come with drive modes to suit different driving requirements. In the city traffic, one wants a relaxed feel and can switch to the City Mode for relaxed responses and more comfort. However, on the highway, where you want to make a quick overtake or drive in a spirited manner, you can switch to Sport Mode. This will improve the throttle and transmission responses to give the power when you need it. The Eco Mode will help you get the maximum mileage out of your Safari.

Terrain Modes

In the event of an off-roading expedition, the Safari will not let you down. It has Wet and Rough Road terrain modes to adjust to any kind of challenges on or off the road. Although at the moment, there is no 4×4 on offer, Tata has announced that the OMEGARC platform is flexible to incorporate a 4×4 drive system in the future if the demand is there.

Safety Features

Tata has a lot of products in their lineup which boasts of an impressive 5 and 4-star safety rating. It is not unknown that Tata takes safety very seriously. The Safari comes with 6 Airbags, ABS with EBD and ESC as standard across all variants. Hill-start Assist, All-four disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child seat mounts are also part of the safety tech.

iRA Connected Car Tech

The updated iRA connected car tech in the Altroz has made its way to the Safari as well. There are a ton of features on offer with this car tech, along with Hinglish voice commands. There is an 8-inch Floating Island Touch Screen Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 9-speaker JBL audio system to make the interior and infotainment system premium.

Engine and Transmission

The 2021 Tata Safari comes with a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine making 170hp and 350 Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

2021 Tata Safari Price

The price of the car has not been announced when we write this article. The prices are expected to be announced soon. It is expected to be priced at a small premium over the ongoing Tata Harrier SUV as this is a larger car based on the same platform and offers a similar drivetrain as well. We expect the pricing to be between Rs. 15.5 Lakhs to Rs. 22 Lakhs (ex-showroom) across the base to the top of the line variants. We will update you with the variant wise price list as soon as it is officially revealed.
