Maruti Suzuki Sales – Hatchback and Sedan Segment

Well, Maruti Suzuki is the highest-selling carmaker in the country and by some margin. Many of the first-time buyers opt for small or mid-size hatchbacks. This means that the Maruti products are extremely popular because of low maintenance costs and high mileage. Hence, this segment is always growing consistently. The key highlight of the mid-size sedan segment is the Ciaz which sold over 1,300 units as compared to 837 units last January. This is an impressive jump of over 61%, which is vital for the company. This is because the rivals of the Ciaz include the segment leader Honda City, the very popular Hyundai Verna and the new product, Skoda Rapid. The overall compact hatchbacks and compact sedan segments sold over 1,03,000 units last month.

Maruti Suzuki Sales – Compact SUV and MPV Segment

This is currently the most popular car segment in the country. Maruti Suzuki has products like the Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, S-Cross and Gypsy in these segments. The overall sales of these segments 23,887 units in January 2021. In comparison, only 16,460 units were sold in January 2020 in this segment which signifies a growth of over 45%. This is also vital for Maruti Suzuki because the brand does not have a higher segment than this, for example, a mid-size SUV or an executive sedan segment. All of Maruti’s sales come from a small car and compact SUVs. Including the Eeco, the overall sales in domestic markets for the carmaker is around 1,39,000 units. This is almost similar to what it sold last year.

Maruti Suzuki Sales – Exports and Sales to Toyota

Another relevant source of sales for the brand comes from supplying products to Toyota under its joint venture with the company. Glanza and Urban Cruiser are sold under the Toyota brand name which are ultimately Baleno and Vitara Brezza of Maruti Suzuki. In total, over 5,700 units were sold to Toyota in January 2021 as compared to a mere 2,249 units last year. This is a rather significant growth of over 153%. Then there were exports to other countries from India. Maruti Suzuki wants to make India its hub for exporting its products across to the African countries as well as the Middle East. Recently, 184 units of the 3-door Jimny were sent to Latin American nations. In January 2021, 12,445 units of Maruti Suzuki products were exported out of India in comparison to 9,624 units last year.
