MG Motors Record A Staggering 215% YoY Sales Growth In February 2021!

MG Motors has recorded a whopping 215% YoY sales growth in February 2021. The sales numbers are MG’s highest ever, in terms of sales, production and bookings. This is an extremely positive sign for the industry which is recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic in 2020. In February 2020, MG had managed to sell just over 1,000 units as compared to 4,329 units in February of this year. This marks a new chapter in MG’s short but successful history in India. Even the EV segment, which might not be the volume-oriented segment, saw the sales double from the month before. Just in February alone, over 350 bookings for the ZS EV were received. MG wants to make sure that the waiting periods on its products are not increased too much.

Women in workforce initiative

Recently, MG launched its 50,000th Hector in Gujarat, which boasts of the industry-leading 33% women workforce. This is another aspect of the brand which shows the intentions of MG’s operations in our country. MG hopes that this number should grow more to 50%. This manufacturing facility of MG in Gujarat has the capacity of 80,000 units annually and MG is looking to utilize this capacity to the fullest.

MG Motors has been on a bit of a roll lately. It started the year with a bang with the launch of the updated Hector family. Also, the 7-seat version of the Hector Plus was introduced for the very first time to widen its portfolio. The buyers now have the option of getting the Hector in 5, 6 or 7-seat configurations. This gives immense flexibility to the buyers to opt for any kind of engine-transmission combinations that they require. Thereafter, MG launched the updated ZS EV, which is also the second-highest selling EV in the country after the Tata Nexon EV. With that, MG had taken numerous initiatives to promote and popularize electric cars in India by improving the charging infrastructure around the country.

It has entered many cities now and has co-operations with multiple companies to establish and develop the charging infrastructure even in the times to come. MG sees the growth potential and future of mobility in electrification. That is the way forward to have some element of hybridization in vehicles. Sensing this early on, it offers its entire Hector family with the mild-hybrid setup also.

MG also tried its hands at the luxury SUV segment in the country with its Gloster. It was aimed at targeting the customers who have always been looking for products like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. MG equipped the Gloster with Level 1 Autonomous Technology, which was first in the segment. This includes plenty of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features. There is a ton of safety kit available with the ADAS technology to make sure that one feels safe inside the car.

All these technologies and initiatives by the carmaker are resulting in people choosing its products and this trend is likely to continue with MG preparing the launch of the Creta-rival mid-size SUV based on the ZS which might be named Astor. MG must be counting big on the mid-size SUV considering the size of the segment. We will be able to know more about the Astor SUV in the coming months.
