Upcoming Cars And SUVs In 2021 – Rapid, Kushaq, Taigun, HBX, AX And More!

The year 2020 was a forgettable year for the entire world in general and the automobile industry in particular. The production was stopped and the sales of the automobiles were severely affected, as was everything else. The carmakers decided to postpone the launches of a lot of their products to 2021. But the situation is starting to get worse even in 2021. Nevertheless, we bring you a list of the upcoming cars and SUVs in India this year so that you can stay updated on what to expect from the automobile industry.

Tata HBX – Micro-SUV

Tata HBX has been spied testing on our roads ever since it was first showcased in the Auto Expo 2020. The HBX will be a micro-SUV from Tata Motors rivaling the likes of Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Ignis. The trend of the SUVs in the country has been increasing exponentially and the HBX will be right in the heart of this segment. Tata has made sure that it remains practical and utilitarian to appeal to a wide variety of customers. The HBX might come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine making 86 hp or a turbo-petrol making higher power output with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. The prices might range between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom.

Tata HBX

Hyundai AX – Micro-SUV

Similar to HBX, the competitor in the segment of micro-SUV will be AX from Hyundai. It has also been spotted testing internationally multiple times and it might make its way into our market sometime this year. The AX might feature the 1.1-litre petrol engine from Santro making 67 hp or 1.2-litre from the Grand i10 Nios making 82 hp. The prices will range between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom.

Skoda Rapid / VW Vento- Executive Sedan

The next-gen Skoda Rapid will be based on the new MQB A0 IN platform developed specifically for our market. This will make the competition in the executive sedan segment quite interesting with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz already leading the segment for a long time. The new Rapid might come with either a 1.0-litre or a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine making 115 hp and 150 hp respectively. The prices will range between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom. The VW Vento will also be similar to the Skoda Rapid in terms of platform and engine options.

VW Taigun / Skoda Kushaq – Mid-Size SUV

Another popular segment will see the launch of VW Taigun in the months to come. The Taigun has already been unveiled earlier and will try to give a tough fight to the segment leader in Hyundai Creta. The Taigun will come with two engine options including a 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine making 115 hp and 150 hp respectively. The expected prices of the mid-size SUV are in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh, ex-showroom. Similarly, the Skoda Kushaq will be based on the same platform and share the engine transmission options.

Mahindra XUV700 – 7-Seater SUV

There has been a lot of excitement in the market for the upcoming SUV from Mahindra, the XUV700. Mahindra has recently officially announced the arrival of the new XUV700 and there have been a few spy images of the same on our roads as well. The XUV700 will be based on a completely new platform and we expect a lot of changes on the inside as well, including a modern infotainment system and ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) features. The XUV700 will come with the most powerful turbo petrol from the mStallion engine family from Mahindra, the 2.0-litre unit. Along with that, there will also be a powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine. It will also come with an option of an AWD system and manual and automatic transmissions.

Citroen CC21 – Compact SUV

Citroen has also decided to enter the Indian market with SUVs and the next one in the line is the Citroen CC21. The spy shots of the same have been out for a while now and it might make it to the dealerships by the end of this year. The CC21 might come with either a 1.2-litre petrol or a turbo engine and will range between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Hatchback

There has been news of the next-gen Celerio for a while now and after the Swift, Celerio might be the next launch planned by the largest carmaker in the country. The new Celerio might come with some cosmetic changes and new interiors with either a 1.0-litre petrol or a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The expected prices of the Celerio will be in the region of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, ex-showroom.

Hyundai Alcazar – 7-Seater SUV

Hyundai Alcazar has been recently revealed by Hyundai and is a long-wheelbase version of the Creta. The launch has been delayed due to the pandemic situation in the country but once launched it will be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 21 lakh, ex-showroom. There are two engine options including a new 2.0-litre petrol engine making 150 hp and a 1.5-litre diesel making 115 hp.

Mahindra Scorpio – 7-Seater SUV

Another product that has been in the pipeline for quite some time now is Scorpio. Due to the shortage of semiconductors globally, the launch has been pushed back a little. The Scorpio might feature the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine or the 2.2-litre diesel unit. The expected prices range between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom.

Skoda Octavia – Sedan

The launch of the Skoda Octavia has been postponed due to the current situation n the country. The Octavia will come with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 190 hp and 320 Nm and will come mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission. There might be a smaller 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine making 150 hp and 250 Nm and the prices might be in the range of Rs 18 lakh and Rs 24 lakh, ex-showroom.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross – Lifestyle Pick-up Truck

We had also reported the arrival of the BS6 updated D-Max V-Cross ver soon with an updated 1.9-litre diesel engine making 161 hp and 360 Nm mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It will feature a ton of off-roading equipment including a 4×4 drive system and might range between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 22 lakh, ex-showroom.

Force Gurkha – Off-roader

Another homegrown product from Force is the Gurkha which has a bit of a fan-following because of the way it looks. It resembles the G-Wagon and has plenty of off-roading capabilities. The Gurkha might come with a 2.6-litre diesel engine making 90 hp and will range between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom.
