Tata Motors will launch a new model on August 4. While the carmaker is yet to reveal the details of this car, we’ve been informed by a local dealership that it’s going to be the 2021 Tata Tiago NRG. So, basically, the budget hatchback’s crossover-inspired version, which was discontinued around the time it got the facelift, will make a re-entry in an updated format.

The 2021 Tata Tiago NRG will look tougher than the regular version and the same will be made possible through a set of styling updates. Like the BS4 version, the new model will feature a more rugged look courtesy of plastic cladding all around. Also, there will be roof rails and chances are it would even get some fresh colour options. Compared to the earlier version, the new model will have a sharper front-end with an Altroz-inspired grille and a sportier bumper. The NRG version will be sold only in a single fully-loaded version that will come loaded with premium bits like a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multi-functional steering wheel, electric ORVMs, driver’s seat height adjustment, automatic climate control, Harman audio unit and day-night IRVM. Safety features will include dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking camera and rear sensors.

In terms of mechanical specifications, the NRG variant will be no different from the regular iteration. It will be powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine that’s available on the standard version. This three-potter outputs 86PS and 113Nm and comes mated to a manual transmission as standard. An AMT is optional but it remains to be seen if it would be offered on the NRG.

In a likelihood, the 2021 Tata Tiago NRG could have a starting price of Rs 6.6 lakh (ex-showroom). Also, the launch of the new model takes place only weeks before the next-gen Maruti Celerio goes on sale in the country. That said, with Maruti having no immediate plans to release the new-gen Celerio X, it would be a while before the Tiago NRG faces any direct rivalry.
