India-Bound Suzuki Jimny Reviewed by Americans – They Love It!

The latest-get Jimny is the off-roading SUV that might finally launch in India soon. Jimny has gathered plenty of praise and interest from the customers and critics in the international markets. The prime reasons include affordability, practicality, utility and even appearance. Suzuki has already started manufacturing the Jimny in India for international markets to keep up with the global demand. The Japanese manufacturing facilities were simply not able to cope up with that kind of demand. Therefore, it is almost certain that the Suzuki Jimny will launch in India at a later stage too. A compelling reason for that could also be the massive popularity that Mahindra Thar has gained in our market. However, considering the Indian customers, Suzuki might think of bringing the 5-door version of the Jimny directly instead of the 3-door one. Let us take a look at how the American automobile enthusiasts review the Jimny.

The Suzuki Jimny is a tall and boxy SUV featuring traditional styling. The exteriors host the old-school rounded headlamps, squared-off bumpers with fog lamps, vertically slated grille, skid plates and tall bonnet line. The side fenders have large and pronounced wheel arches along with a plain side profile. There is a blacked-out roof and the length of the Jimny is under 4m. The rear end comes with the traditional boot door-mounted spare wheel along with a tall silhouette and curveless bumpers with taillamps mounted on them. Being short and practical, the approach, ramp-over and departure angles are great which is great for off-roading scenarios.

The interiors of the Jimny are completely practical and have all the basic things that one needs. Sure, it is not the most luxurious or modern cabins but people opting for the Jimny are not looking for things like that. The steering wheel is a basic unit with buttons for controls, the Instrument Cluster is traditional, there is a touchscreen Infotainment System at the centre console, regular plastics on the dashboard and other areas and a traditional hand brake lever. The rear seat is not meant for adults and the boot space is too little with the seats up. So, one would only buy a Jimny if he/she plans to take an off-roading trip with just one other person. That way, the luggage and passenger space are not big issues to deal with.

When it launches in India, the Jimny will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 105 PS and 138 Nm as in the Brezza. There will be the options of a 5-speed manual or automatic gearboxes to choose from. The Jimny will get a 4×4 drive system to challenge the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in our market.
