BS6 Ford EcoSport Has MAJOR DPF Issues!

It looks like the new BS6-compliant Ford EcoSport diesel has major DPF issues. For the uninitiated, DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter which is an addition that most BS6 compliant diesel cars come with. According to the BS6 requirements, the NOx and CO emissions from diesel powertrains need to be way lower than the previous BS4 engines. To achieve this, DPF sort of became the only solution to keep the costs in check. This is because other, more effective and less cumbersome, technologies cost way more. The prices of small-capacity diesel engines would’ve shot up tremendously. However, DPF comes with its own issues. Here are some examples of the new Ford EcoSport owners facing some serious DPF issues.

Seen here are also some images uploaded by the owner of a brand new Ford EcoSport diesel. When he saw the DPF symbol on the instrument cluster, he went to the service centre and got the filter cleaned up. However, just a few minutes after getting out from the service centre, the symbol reappeared. Now, one way of cleaning the DPF is by driving at a constant speed of 60 kmph for about 20-30 mins. This increases the exhaust temperature and the soot and other harmful particles that have clogged up the filter start to burn off. This procedure, if done properly, should give you some relief and could be performed again if need be. Driving with the DPF symbol results in loss of power and pick-up in low gears. It could also lead to damaging other components.

However, it is quite ridiculous that one needs to find time and driving conditions where this situation could occur. Most of us are working individuals who use cars to commute from home to work and back home. Ford can’t expect people to take time out of their busy schedules and perform this task regularly. Anyway, even after managing to do this, the owner still kept getting the same symbol on the MID. After going to the service station repeatedly, he decided to inform the higher authorities. However, the situation there was even worse with no one replying to the emails or returning the calls. Now, this is completely unprofessional from a carmaker of Ford’s stature.

First of all, people are buying Ford products despite the rumours of the company exiting India. On top of that, you are displaying poor customer care services. Also, it must be noted that this is not a one-off incident. Many other EcoSport owners have had the exact same problem and complaints. Almost all of them have bought the new BS Ford EcoSport with diesel hearts. That is when more than 30 of these owners got together and launched a sort of social media campaign so that Ford India takes notice. Reportedly, Ford has stopped the production of BS Ford Ecosport and the recall might be issued very soon.
