The Mahindra XUV700 was recently leaked online through a couple of pictures that gave us a clear look at the design of the new SUV. The design of the upcoming SUV has polarised opinions but we feel it’s a tad too early to pass on a verdict on the looks of the vehicle. We say this as the pictures we have seen so far aren’t the clearest around and have been taken in a manner that the proportions of the new model aren’t clear. Also, the unit that has been spied isn’t the top-spec model and is hence deprived of bigger alloys and chrome trim. Also, the paint shade is on the dull side, which is something that further fails to amplify the new design highlights that this flagship carries. Today, however, we have re-done versions of the aforementioned pictures that have visualised the XUV700 in Tata Safari Adventure Persona colours.

For the uninitiated, the Adventure Persona is the Safari’s top-spec model and comes with a rather unique shade of blue that helps the SUV with a premium look. And as seen in the images above, the same shade makes the Mahindra XUV700 look quite good. If nothing else, it at least suits the SUV a whole lot better than the brown shade it has been spied in. Also, we’ve learnt that the model seen above isn’t the top-spec version and that the top-of-the-line model gets larger alloy wheels and more chrome trim, which is something that we believe would look better in this shade of blue.

In its third generation now, the Tata Safari is based on the Harrier and hence, shares much of its styling cues as well as mechanicals with the smaller SUV. It is, however, dimensionally bigger and enjoys a higher street presence. In comparison, the Mahindra XUV700 is an all-new model developed from the grounds up. Mechanically, it’s more advanced than the XUV500 but its design theme looks similar to that of the Cheetah-inspired XUV500. To many, the new model is looking like a grown up XUV500 and we can’t blame them for this analogy because the XUV700 seems to share plenty of design elements with the older SUV. The front-end, for instance, gets a similar grille but the headlamps, while retaining the DNA of those on the XUV500, are more radical. The hood has a similarly clamshell design while even the greenhouse looks similar. Fortunately, the rear-end is completely different and look much different than what the XUV500 offers.

The Mahindra XUV700 will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options, which is in contrast to the diesel-only Tata Safari. The petrol motor will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that will offer 190PS while the diesel motor will be a 2.2-litre oil-burner that will offer 180PS. Transmission options for both the engines will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. All-wheel-drive will be offered as an optional extra but it would make the XUV700 the only model in its segment to offer this option. Prices should range from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom).
