Under the FAME-II subsidy scheme, Ola Electric Scooter is eligible for discounts of up to Rs 50,000. This is a substantial figure and would create a lot of competition in the newly-evolving electric scooter market. The e-scooter segment is almost non-existent in India at the moment with just a handful of players like the Ather. Ola Electric Scooter has created a lot of buzz ever since it opened the bookings recently. The booking is strictly online and could be done at just Rs 499. The e-scooter will be delivered to the customers at their doorsteps. The launch is about to take place in August itself. The central and state government subsidies will see the amount to reach about Rs 50,000. Let us break down the numbers for you.

Ola Electric Scooter FAME-II Subsidy
According to the FAME-II subsidy norms, an e-scooter is eligible for Rs 15,000 per kWh battery capacity. The Ola Electric Scooter is likely to have a 3.6 kWh battery pack. This amounts to around Rs 50,000 direct discount from the ex-showroom price. Additionally, the states of Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra offer even more subsidies to promote the rapid adoption of EVs in India. Ola will launch the e-scooter in three variants; Series S, Series S1 and Series S1 Pro. The subsidies are offered for two-wheelers under Rs 1.50 lakh, Therefore, it is easy to assume that Ola will not price the top-trim Series S1 Pro more than Rs 1.50 lakh. This will translate to the effective price to the buyer of under Rs 1 lakh, which is highly competitive.

The 3.6 kWh battery pack will propel the e-scooter from 0-60 kmph in around 6 seconds. The Ather 450X, its nearest rival, takes around 6.5 secs for the same. The range of the e-scooter will be around 150 km which is decent, especially for city use. The scooter can be charged through a 5A socket or at a ‘Hypercharger’. The Hypercharging stations will be set up in 100 cities by the time the Ola Electric Scooter launches and will extend to 400 cities soon after. The popularity of the Ola Electric Scooter is likely to increase with FAME-II subsidies coming into the picture.
