Yamaha launched the new Fascino 125 FI and the Ray-ZR 125 FI scooters in Chennai yesterday and along with that, the company also showcased the BS-6 compliant 2020 MT-15. The 2020 BS-6 Yamaha MT-15 will go on sale in February next year and we expect a hike in price of about Rs 4,000 from the current motorcycle. Yamaha has introduced a new color scheme for the MT-15. Its called the Ice Fluo Vermillion colour scheme which is essentially a black and white color scheme with some new graphics. With this paint scheme, the MT-15 also gets new orange painted alloy wheels. This colour will be available in addition to the dark matte blue and black colour options already available on the motorcycle.

Among other updates, the BS-6 MT-15 also gets a new side-stand engine kill feature, a revised LED taillamp which has been positioned higher than before and a radial tyre at the rear for the first time. Unfortunately, Yamaha still does not offer a dual-channel ABS on the motorcycle as standard. It is still available with only single-channel ABS.

Apart from these changes, the rest of the motorcycle remains pretty much unchanged. It will continue to be powered by the 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that also does duty on the new R15 V3.0. Although Yamaha hasn’t officially revealed the specs of the BS-6 compliant engine, we expect it to be identical to the BS-6 R15 V3 at 18.3 bhp and 14.1 Nm of peak torque, down from 19 bhp and 14.7 Nm of peak torque. The engine continues to be mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The 2020 BS-6 MT-15 will continue with the same underpinnings as the BS-4 model. The motorcycle will ride on the same telescopic fork and rear monoshock setup. Even the brake sizes (282mm front and 220mm rear) remain the same. Yamaha will retail the 2020 BS-6 MT-15 through the new Yamaha Blue Square dealerships — the first of which has been opened in Chennai. The brand plans to expand the reach of Blue Square dealerships to 100 outlets next year.
